Lol.. it sleeted about a half an inch overnight and has rained a lot today with occasional sleet. Very weird to have thunder and lightning at 34 degrees.

Worst day all winter. :cold:

Tiny snow flurries on and off all day, temperatures around freezing with howling north winds. So much for those 40's expected today...

Any thoughts on mid-week?

The past few weeks have fluctuated so much. Severe weather, then winter weather.. crazy. Almost all the winter weather has been north of I-40 though.

Looks like there's going to a winter storm across parts of the Mid South/Mid Mississippi Valley in a few days.

Looks like mostly a sleet changing to rain event here in the Charlotte area. Temps are marginal. Going for a forecast low of 33.

Freezing rain advisories for the Memphis metro. The heavier stuff is north with numerous ice storm and winter storm warnings.

Winter Weather Adv for the immediate North counties with Winter Storm Watches to the West and Northwest of Charlotte. Some chance of sleet and/or frezing rain for the metro, but does not look to be a big deal at all. Marginal with a low forecast of 33.

Check out 0Z GFS for next Tuesday-ish!

Maybe not a mondo-weather disaster, but a reminder that even in March winter isn't over.

When you post model runs and simply say, "check it out" or something similar, it would be nice if you would give a brief explanation of what the model is showing for those who don't know how to read the maps. A lot of people read these threads and I'm sure it would be helpful to many. Thanks. :)

I can read the maps a little bit and I enjoy looking at them. Sometimes it even gives me information that is useful. Kind of like there is this big high from Jackson, MS to El Paso....let's go ahead and tear off this roof....we've got time. My daughter just called from Jackson, TN.....she says it's snowing!

From Birmingham:

BEHIND THE COLD FRONT LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND
EARLY TUESDAY MORNING...THERE MAY BE SUFFICIENT MOISTURE REMAINING
AND COLD AIR TO BRING AT LEAST A PERIOD OF LIGHT TO MODERATE
RAIN AND/OR SNOW SHOWERS. THE BEST CHANCES FOR A CHANGE OVER TO SNOW
WILL BE ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF CENTRAL ALABAMA.

Areas further north in TN may see a snowstorm.

NWS Nashville DID use the wording possible snow storm for middle Tennessee,
but of course, that's still quite a ways out.

Jeez - it figures - now than I'm out of the mood for snow and ready for Spring...!

From the NWS in Jackson, MS:
(Looks like a wait and see thing. Severe weather looks to be a certainty, while winter precip is still a big question. I wonder if this thing could turn out to be anything like the blizzard of 93????)

IN ADDITION TO THE SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL...THE TRACK OF THE SURFACE LOW MAY PRESENT A CHANCE FOR WINTER PRECIP FOR PORTIONS OF THE ARKLAMISS REGION AS WELL. THE GFS PARTICULARLY HAS CARRIED SNOW INTO AT LEAST NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE CWFA AS COLDER AIR FILTERS IN BEHIND THE FRONT AND INTERACTS WITH WRAP-AROUND MOISTURE AND LINGERING PRECIP BEHIND THE FRONT. AGAIN...THIS WILL BE DEPENDENT ON THE TRACK OF THE SURFACE LOW. A MORE NORTHERN TRACK WOULD MOST LIKELY LIMIT THE CHANCE FOR SNOW FOR THE AREA...WHILE A MORE SOUTHERN TRACK WOULD EXPAND THE AREA OF COVERAGE FOR THE ARKLAMISS REGION. THIS TOO WILL BE IRONED OUT AS MODELS CONTINUE TO COME INTO BETTER AGREEMENT.

Latest from Birmingham:

TUESDAY WILL BE A RAW COLD DAY
WITH STRONG COLD AIR ADVECTION AND TEMPERATURES STEADY IN THE
UPPER 30S NORTH AND LOWER 40S SOUTH. THE CRITICAL RAIN/SNOW
THICKNESS LINE (1300 METERS) SHIFTS INTO SOUTH ALABAMA BY TUESDAY
AFTERNOON...AND MODELS INDICATE PLENTY OF WRAP AROUND MOISTURE...
SO SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE ACROSS A LARGE PORTION OF CENTRAL
ALABAMA.

Perfect March day! :slime:

ATTENTION THEN TURNS TO THE NEXT SYSTEM TO AFFECT THE MID SOUTH
SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING. 12Z GFS/ECMWF HAVE COME INTO
CLOSER AGREEMENT WITH AN UPPER LEVEL LOW CLOSING OFF AT THE BASE
OF A LONGWAVE TROUGH BY MONDAY NIGHT. MEANWHILE...LAST COUPLE RUNS
OF THE CANADIAN ARE STILL FURTHER NORTH AND WEST OF THE GFS/ECMWF.
AT THIS POINT...MODELS SUGGEST SURFACE LOW WILL TRACK ACROSS THE
MID SOUTH WITH WINTER WEATHER POTENTIAL A THREAT MONDAY NIGHT INTO
TUESDAY MORNING. MODEL SOUNDINGS INDICATE SNOW POTENTIAL ACROSS
MOST OF THE FORECAST AREA LATE MONDAY NIGHT.
AS THE FORECAST AREA
IS IN THE WARM SECTOR SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY...THREATS WILL BE
MAINLY HEAVY RAINFALL AND A LIMITED SEVERE WEATHER THREAT ACROSS
NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI. HAVE NOT MADE ANY LARGE SCALE CHANGES TO
ONGOING FORECAST AND HWO AT THIS POINT AS THE EXACT TRACK OF THE
LOW MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE IN LATER MODEL RUNS.

This might be our best shot of some white stuff on the ground this winter.

It snowed today for a few hours. For about an hour it was pretty heavy!!

Not much accumulation.. just a dusting on the grass.
