The CPC has above average temps for most of Texas for the next two weeks.

I’m going for the Chiefs but I think the Eagles will win. They have more talent overall.

As much as it pains me to say it, I agree. But I absolutely loathe the Eagles.

Trust me, I despise basically any team that’s from the NE except Buffalo.

Winter wx tends to get active when you dig into the Great Basin with amplitude. Shortwave timing, quality of cold etc etc apply but worth noting.

I hope we see some more winter weather - if it leads to a few inches of snow. Not if it's another ice storm.

The thing about opinions is everyone has one.

For me, 78 is a perfect day. The month or latitude doesn’t matter to me. If you tell me “today’s forecast is a mild 78” you will see a smile on my face, whether it’s in July or December.

I have a low of 36 forecast this weekend. I hope it’s the last freeze threat because I’m ready to get on with my spring gardening.

It's at least below 80. Lol.

Folks up here already have some fruit trees blooming, so that will be an issue if it gets cold again like expected.

No sign of cold air here on the apps through almost the start of March. We still need about 6 inches of snow here to get to average. I dunno I'm not feeling very optimistic we get there though we can always get a big storm in March

Ensembles are bullish on sending arctic air down the plains between Feb 22nd-24th timeframe.

FWIW...Weeklies with a cold signal for late Feb into March.

I'm happy with zero precipitation, of any type, for the foreseeable future. At least until the ice storm damage is repaired. Got a 4" hole in my roof above my bedroom; a window broken, siding damaged, my outside storage shed was skewered by a large limb, and just yesterday finished the ten-day task of clearing and sawing brush and lumber piled high in my yard and on my home. There is now a stack by the curb 60 feet long (or more), 8' high and about 8' wide waiting for the city to remove.

78 is good "walking around" weather, but it's chilly on a bike with a 20 mph wind blowing on wet skin. Needs to be 80+ for me to not get cold on a long bike ride. I think 85 is about perfect for a 3-4 hour bike ride at a brisk to fast pace.

As for the next couple of weeks, looks like fairly normal February weather. Mostly zonal flow but with a Canadian front or two. No major cold or ice across Texas.

Thinking back on this date in February 1899. Here’s some interesting stuff about that infamous cold wave from Texas Tales author Mike Cox…

—————-

“….what happened during the second and third weeks of February 1899 is well documented. On February 11, a huge mass of Arctic air blustered into Texas. The temperature hit 23 degrees below zero in Tulia, which meant it was probably even a few degrees colder than that in Dalhart.

Like a runaway locomotive pulling only refrigerator cars, the cold air swept over the entire state. Moving from northwest to south, on February 12-14 (the dates varying with the progression of the cold front) Abilene dropped to -23; Denison reached -16; Fort Worth-Dallas saw -10 degrees, Waco -5, Austin -1 and San Antonio -4. (Children enjoyed skating on the frozen San Antonio River.) On the border at Laredo the mercury remained above zero, but only by 5 degrees. Corpus Christi dropped to 11 degrees, Brownsville experienced a 12 degree low and Galveston chilled to 8 degrees.

“Much of Galveston Bay froze, (as did part of Corpus Christi Bay to the south).”

I would absolutely love for this to happen again with a foot of snow but I’ll probably never see that in my lifetime. Not sure it’s even possible to get that cold anymore.

Slight risk back west now to include DFW.

Hopefully it's not going to get too bad today.

The only good news about the longer range is that WCAN stays cold. Just a ridiculous ridge dominating the South.
