Is anyone else bothered by radar? Seems it is about to end soon. Or is another batch expected?

Snow is fun but extreme cold is some nasty business, if you are not used to it. The fact that Texas has gone so long without one of these events probably will make the losses much worse. Good luck to everyone.

@NBCDFWWeather

7:24 pm Sunday...A Wind Chill warning has been issued for wind chills of -10 to -20. According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, this is the first time they've ever had to issue this type of warning in N TX.

WHAAAAAAAAATTTTTT -20

Earlier model runs never had the line getting this far east but they all had a 2nd batch coming up from the south later tonight. 00z HRRR shows another 3 - 5" of snow for some parts of DFW with snow finally ending tomorrow morning, it does show a break later this evening. If the batch coming up from the south fills in faster and/or expands NW more than expected then totals could be higher.

Well there's something I never thought I would need to do. Had to dig out my heat pump outside from a drift that was causing it to kick on Aux Heat. It's just to cold and it was not having it. Set my stats to Emergency Heat and will for go the Heat Pump. A slightly higher heating bill is better then a busted heat pump.

Fingers crossed we make it through the night.

Plus the backside of this round is just on the East side of Abilene. Still a long way to go.

Hoping the radar starts filling in soon... Lots of spotty heavier precip that looks like sleet moving into east Texas.

We still have a long ways to go but the current radar presentation doesn't scream 4-8" of snow for Longview.

The precip shield is drying out a little bit on its west side, but that was expected. However, the HRRR continues to underestimate the coverage of the precip shield, and it doesn’t look like it sees that band coming up from Cleburne. Maybe the most interesting feature it doesn’t see though, is that SW to NE oriented band moving up from Comanche. Looks kind of pseudo-trowal-like to me.

If you have a heat pump, you should be running on auxiliary heat/emergency heat mode. Too cold to run a heat pump now

It's now 4°F outside, wind chill of -13°F

Snowing with 4 inches on the ground . . .

Been a VERY LONG day! Up since 3 AM!

Lotta football left, fellas. Energy coming out of Mexico is the main event. Most of the divergence will come from this energy.

I would keep the heat pump running, just so I don't have to deal with a frozen fan once the weather gets milder. Backup heat will be running a lot when the weather is this cold, but the pump is still producing some heat, it just needs aux heat to help keep up with the demand.

It also seems to be under doing the pulse coming out of Mexico. The biggest short range surprises always seem to come up out of Mexico, b/c energy is coming out of a data sparse region. Not saying that will happen, but something to watch tonight as radar develops.

We are getting decent flakes in the heavier showers

Weird, think i just got a bit of freezing rain, on top of about 1/4"-1/2" sleet on the ground.
