CMC looks close to the SREF, I would watch the next couple of runs of the RGEM too as it did the best job on this morning's event imo.
(had the heaviest bands southeast of dfw and north of georgetown : http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis ... 8633775956)

FWIW some models are showing a piece of energy(snow) moving across north texas around noon thursday.

Not sure it's worth much cuz this is Austin after all, but is it showing anything interesting for Austin?

CMC has very light snowfall accumulations for Austin but mostly west/nw of I-35 and north of us. Though temps look very cold friday morning 12z had 24-26 and 0z had 22-24 for morning lows, SREF wants to keep us at or below freezing with light snow in the morning- mid-morning time frame with a mean average of an inch of snow via ensembles.

:uarrow: That'd be nice, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

It's not a big deal in the overall scheme of things for sure, but I have to admit that this is one of the more disappointing mornings I've experienced after a missed winter weather opportunity. It was an event that looked like a big, big deal 12 hours ago as the radar began to light up and instead, there was almost nothing in the end.

Quite the letdown.

Congratulations on the good snow! I guess the play being touted yesterday was valid (hefty snow totals in portions of Texas) just not the mechanics and execution of the play (for most of us). Enjoy your East Texas big snow day!!! :D

A twitter user ntxweathersoonr tweeted yesterday "While WED am will be a yawner, im VERY impressed w late wk, could be major" and he was the only person i saw that nailed this morning's event. Then again with ULL like that, exact track is always key to determine who gets slammed and who gets a bust/tease.(often unpredictable) In this case it traveled south of dfw but north of austin so we both got robbed.

Btw latest RGEM for friday morning wants to open the gates of canada down to central tx, with 16 in fort worth and lower 20's for austin, that's going to be tough to rebound from, esp if frozen precip is around.

Imo dfw won't get out of the 20's friday and austin metro won't get above 32-33.

Wow, really?! That's awesome! You are the lucky winner today. What time did it start?

Just saw a photo of two inches on the ground at Lake Fork, 90 miles east of Dallas. A friend who lives south of Fort Worth ended up with an inch or two and a friend in Waco had about the same. Glad some Texans did get to see some good snowfall out of this deal!

I'm in the same boat as you. I stayed up all night waiting for the changeover only to sleep through the snow that actually did fall. Oh well, hopefully we get something on Friday.

Always enjoy cold weather, so bring it on. Maybe by then I'll have recovered from staying up to nearly 3 a.m. last night. I don't think I've ever done that before for a winter weather event.

But enough of my disappointment. I've had my fun over the years. Let's get some snow and sleet for you guys down in ATX.

I was right there with you viciously updating twitter and refreshing the posts on s2k. I was getting nervous and kept seeing the precip holding off to the south and decided to give up on it with hopes of waking up to a lot of white in the morning. That didn't work out so well.

Here's a 12Z GFS meteogram for Dallas-Ft. Worth. Warm advection starts Friday evening. Possible brief period of sleet on Saturday afternoon with SE winds. No significant event in the GFS, and I'm not expecting one. Generally dry.

Warmer, of course, in Houston. No freeze.

GFS is the outlier for now...

Yeah, I started getting concerned when I saw how big the returns were from the Abilene area last night and yet they were staying steadily in the mid-30s and not changing over to snow or sleet. Began to realize then that temperatures (surface and aloft) were going to be far more marginal than previously thought and that a big ticket storm might bust. Still, I didn't think it was going to bust this badly.

I'm surprised at how disappointed I am this morning - you kind of get used to this living in Texas (anywhere outside of the Panhandle) and loving winter weather. I've loved snow, sleet and cold since I was a boy growing up. Now in my late 40s, my health scare last spring has left me wondering how many more of these things are left in the tank I guess.

EWX will likely go conservative one last time with this potential event. Looking forward to tomorrow's AFDs. Also I'll be keep an eye on san angelo's discussions moving forward.

Why is I35 such a dividing line in Austin for weather? I know it's an easy physical divider, but weather shouldn't care. Does it have to do with the balconies escarpment?

:uarrow: imo yes the balconies escarpment plays a huge role in temps. Greatest example was the NYE cold front/system.

Yeah, here in Cedar Hill we managed to pick up an inch. http://imgur.com/a/Fvb0G <--- Photos I posted earlier.

It's almost all melted from the grass now. Still hanging on for dear life on top of the roofs.
