To note (unless my sources are off (NWS)) DFW has 0.39 inches of liquid with 4 inches of snow. Wouldn't that be 10:1 ratio about? I expected a lower ratio.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
1219 PM CST THU FEB 11 2010
.UPDATE...
MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW PERSISTS ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF NORTH
TEXAS WITH RAIN/SNOW LINE JUST SOUTH OF THE METROPLEX. LATEST
SOUNDING DATA FROM FORT WORTH DID SHOW SOME WARMING DOWN LOW MORE
SUPPORTIVE OF SLEET MIXING IN BUT ADDITIONAL DATA FROM DFW AIRPORT
INDICATES THAT LOW LEVELS HAVE ONCE AGAIN COOLED. THIS CORRESPONDS
WELL WITH SURFACE REPORTS OF ALL SNOW AGAIN IN THE METROPLEX. 88D
DATA SHOWS A HEAVY BAND OF SNOW EXTENDING FROM PARKER COUNTY INTO
TARRANT AND DALLAS COUNTIES. THIS BAND WILL LIKELY PUT DOWN
ANOTHER 1-3 INCHES OF SNOW IN SHORT PERIOD. THIS SHOULD BE THE
LAST OF THE VERY HEAVY SNOW...AS RADAR DATA SUGGESTS THAT PRECIP
WILL LIGHTEN LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
12Z GUIDANCE IS ALL IN AGREEMENT WITH A H85 LOW MOVING ACROSS
NORTH TEXAS THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. TEMPS OF -4 TO -6 C ARE
ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FEATURE...BUT PRECIP SHOULD BE COMING TO AN
END. LATER THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING...SNOW WILL OCCUR BUT
SHOULD BE LIGHTER THAN WHAT IS OCCURRING NOW. NO CHANGES TO THE
CURRENT WARNING/ADVISORY CRITERIA...BUT MAY NEED TO ADD SOME
COUNTIES TO THE WARNING /NORTHEAST COUNTIES/ IN THE 4PM PACKAGE.

SNOWFALL IS NOW PREVALENT ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF NORTH TEXAS
AND SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1-2" HAVE ALREADY FALLEN WITHIN A
HEAVY TO MODERATE SNOW BAND THAT NOW LIES FROM MONTAGUE COUNTY TO
SULPHUR SPRINGS. CONSIDERING THESE SNOWFALL TOTALS AND EXPECTED
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS THIS AFTERNOON...HAVE EXPANDED THE WINTER
STORM WARNING WITH NEW SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 4-6" (6-8") WITH
ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE WARNING AREA. IN RESPONSE...HAVE
ALSO INCREASED SNOWFALL TOTALS IN THE ADVISORY AREA AROUND THE
IMMEDIATE WARNING.
THE LOWER ATMOSPHERE COOLED MUCH FASTER AND EARLIER THAN WE
EXPECTED. 12Z FWD SOUNDING SHOWS AN ATMOSPHERE ALL BELOW FREEZING
AND THIS WILL PERSIST TODAY. HAVE ALSO ADJUSTED SURFACE
TEMPERATURES TO REMAIN AT FREEZING FOR MOST OF NORTH
TEXAS...EXCEPT IN THE SOUTHEAST. HOWEVER...LOCATIONS IN THE
SOUTHEAST WILL SEE THEIR HIGH TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING IF THEY
HAVE NOT REACHED THEM ALREADY.
Thats why I added my 6-8" in to NWS FTW outlook.

txagwxman, could you elaborate a little more. I live about 15 minutes south of BTR and our local mets on now are downplaying this saying lucky to see a dusting. Is it because they are hooked on one specific model. Ever since yesterday morning the forecast flip flops from one extreme to the other. Anything you have seen lately showing the possibilty we could get more? I feel greedy.

Interesting that they think the last heavy band will be through soon.

Walked across my parking lot to get lunch and I *thought* I saw a very wet melting flake or two with the rain but I wasn't sure...maybe?

So where is that low now? Is it still on projected track?

Well according to the NWS RUC model it appears the heaviest snow bands will occur from 2pm - 4pm. They appear to show precip for the previous hour, so I'm not sure why it would be delayed over 2 hours on the model.

I can confirm that on the Dallas/Collin line at Bush/75, we're getting pounded with heavy, big flakes of snow.

This is absolutely amazing (for N TX), big big flakes that won't let up. I'm sure the NWS will be scratching their heads on this one.

This is amazing... Although some very experienced forecasters were calling for snow all the way; I was bit skeptical due to the south wind and the possibility of the low pulling in too much warm air... Props to the mets that called this one right, because it was a bold call if you really think about it. I mean, how often have we in the metroplex seen accumulating snow with a south wind?
Here's a shot of SMU's Ford Stadium a few hours ago... It has snowed quite a bit since I took this one.
