15-3 for the Bulldogs, they should be dancing in March, Texas is on the bubble. But we got lots of NIL money, they'll buy some talent and the Horns should be better '25-26. Far from Starkville but I had a summer internship in Laurel, MS. I found few of the negative stereotypes I'd heard in NY moving to Texas, but that year I found many of the bad stereotypes were true. But eating sweet onions as a desert after lunch was cool and Hattiesburg was a college town.

Anybody: Free image hosting site? I was using Giphy during hurricane season, now they want me to pay. I don't need to post gigs, just images.

Yes, I am graduating on May 15 with a BS in professional meteorology and minor in math. That is cool! I actually passed through Laurel when we went to New Orleans for the AMS conference.

I use imgur for all my images I post.

A gentlemen's C in 'Systems of Linear Differential Equations' (oilfield reservoir modeling depends of solutions, approximations and transforms of some very ugly equations) ended my goal of an MS in petroleum engineering.

That course doesn't sound like a lot of fun haha. I liked Laplace transforms a lot more. I'm taking PDE this semester though so I hope to survive lol.

Yeah it’s been a fun game to watch. Snow getting heavier too!

Meanwhile I’m mentally preparing myself for a nothing-burger here in Round Rock. The model trends today from the short range meso models are concerning. :(

Maybe we’ll end up with our old faithful … freezing drizzle. LOL.

North Texas gets their share, SE Texas gets theirs soon… weather gods can’t fathom Central Texas getting snow :grr:

Snow in Texas, 8th wonder of the World

Don't use my posts as forecast; I'm not a licensed meteorologist! I just endorse cold weather, alright?

All observations I note are for Temple, Texas unless otherwise stated.

Welcome! I think it’s too early to despair. These model trends are more of the “hmm … that’s interesting and something to keep an eye on” as compared to “we need to change this forecast asap.”

But the further south and east you are from Austin the better.

We can hope, such a unique storm so really hard to judge. Wish we could just have a classic Mexican upper low instead of these Gulf lows.

History about to be made down here in Houston. Hot off the presses from the National Weather Service:

“Confidence is increasing in the prospects for a potentially
historic winter storm to impact SE Texas on Monday Night and
Tuesday, with impacts from this storm lingering into the early
part of Wednesday. Periods of heavy mixed precipitation are
expected at times, and forecast snow totals would place this as
one of the most substantial snowfall events in the history of the
Greater Houston Area...

For areas along the I-10 corridor, including Metro Houston, we anticipate broad totals of 3-5" of snow. Locations north and south of the I-10 corridor are expected to pick up 1-3". There remains the potential for some locally higher amounts, and this will ultimately be tied to the exact location and strength of any mesoscale snow bands associated with the system as it moves along the coast. We will soon enter into the range of convection-allowing models which will help us pinpoint the potential impacts of these localized snow bands more. However, the general thought is that a reasonable worst case scenario of up to 8" of accumulation can’t be ruled out…

To put this into a historical context, we haven`t seen a storm
quite like this impact Greater Houston in quite some time. In
fact, if we were to measure a snowfall amount more than 3 inches
in Houston, it would be the second highest snow amount ever
recorded in the city (the highest being 14 inches back in 1895,
and the second highest being 3 inches in 1960). Some area
counties may have their all-time snowfall records threatened (for
example, Fort Bend County has never recorded a snow total of more than 4 inches).”

I am under a Winter Storm warning in my area. I do not like this one bit. My power goes in my neighborhood even on a sunny day. Prepped and ready with generator and supplies with what ever happens. Here in Lumberton, Tx North of I10.

It's gonna be a very cold night up here. Low 10s likely by morning in cold spots and mid 10s otherwise. We maxed at 34 here today. Likely about the same temps tomorrow. Just need to get some moisture up here tomorrow night with temps in the mid 20s to get a coating of snow.

Seems my pilot is unable to evacuate me to Australia, so I'm stuck in SW Houston for this historic snow storm. I do like snow, but I'm dreading having to turn the water to the house off by Tuesday afternoon to prevent freezing pipes in the attic. Hopefully, I can turn it back on for a bit Wednesday afternoon.

I've been reading the AFDs, one written by my former teammate Cameron Self. He talks about a warm nose, but I'm not seeing it. I plotted HRRR soundings from 18Z for Houston, Lake Charles, New Orleans, and even Galveston and I see no warm nose during the precipitation. Looks like a snow event for us in Houston. We have all the supplies we need. I even filled four 5-gal cans with gas for the generator, just in case, but I don't expect snow to cause power issues. This is nothing like 2021. Heck, temperatures north of Houston will be warmer than us (less cold) Tue/Wed. It'll be extremely busy at work tomorrow. I can't take any time off this week, I even have to fill in for the day shift Wednesday as a teammate is on vacation. Hopefully, I can take Friday off.

Enjoy my friend! For years we have wished this snow and cold upon you to cool your heated heart and it's finally happening! One question, the heck you do with the thermostat for February? It looks torchy...guess it comes with a price.

Payment for this cold blast will come due in February (I hope).
