Will hot water empty from the tank?
I have a main cutoff in the flowerbed
If you cut your main then you will have to empty. Fill up your bath tub before you do.

Tub for bathroom needs?
I've drained all hot and cold in the house. Guess that's it?
Glad I stocked up on drinking water. Survive!
It's a quickly accessible cutoff valve that was easy to turn. So if I need to get water just turn it on and that's it I guess.
What about the hot water heater? Do I need to trip the breaker for it so it's not on and no water?

Don't cut off, just keep your water running very slowly from the faucets. The slow replacement of the water with that from the underground mains will keep the lines from freezing.

I see, well with no power and as cold as it is just playing safe since i have linesin the attic. I suppose I can always turn it back on if need be then cut again?

You can go either way you just have to drain if you choose to turn off, as for the water heater that's beyond my knowledge. If it's gas maybe keep the pilot mode.
Keeping your water constantly running slowly is a good idea as well, you should be fine if they restore your power soon.

Quick read online, the tank holds water and it's in the garage which runs about 20F warmer then outside. No more water going into it but sounds like it hold water heated for a while. We shall see.
Hopefully I'm doing what I can.

Ntxw, was there supposed to still snow/snow develop in Central Oklahoma at 6:30 AM? It started to snow again . . . (Even though it's been snowing since 3 AM yesterday)
(Also, OKC has measured 6 inches of snow on the ground at WRWA)

Re: Texas Winter 2020-2021
Something is clearly off with the snow measurements at DFW. First of all that's been a round number every time is suspect, almost never the case in real time snow measurement with an official reading all day yesterday.
Second of all snow depth with 4" by midnight before the second batch which then dropped 0.05 (high ratios and often times low visibiliity) and you tell me there was no snow depth gained?
Okay with blowing snow I'll give them the benefit of the doubt with the depth and perhaps they will release the actual snowfall (I have yet to see it). But that is absurd.

Power has been out since about 1:30 am. No estimate of when it will be back on. Unamused

Some short range guidance showed a feature with the ULL passage in central Oklahoma. Most didn't catch it but given how cold it is, probably enough to lift to cause the light snow.

All of the sky scrapers in Dallas have their decorative lights on......
Really? Just saw a live shot on Fox 4.
I thought we needed to conserve.

Re: Texas Winter 2020-2021
Just unreal what we’re experiencing. It’s 5 at North Texas Regional Airport, it’s 4 at the Austin College Weather Station west of Sherman/Denison.
Looks like we might have picked up another inch overnight, up to 3-5 inches (haven’t measured). Power definitely went off during the night.
All-time record low in Sherman/Denison is -2 according to Steve LaNore at KXII. I believe that was in December 1989, maybe again in one of the cold snaps back in the 1940s? Anyway, forecast low tomorrow morning is -3 and I’d bet it’s a degree or two colder than that.
History in the making. Good luck and do what you can to stay warm.
Welcome to what it was like in 1899.

Finfrock said yesterday this is not unprecedented nor out of the realm of possibility what we are experiencing.
Not sure why he would make that call before we even really got started.

Re: Texas Winter 2020-2021
I woke up to 8" of snow and 6 degrees. The coldest model for me tomorrow morning is GFS16 which puts me at -10 tomorrow.
-10s for northern panhandle (-17 in NW corner), -0s down to Decatur to Abilene to Midland, 0s down to Eagle Pass to San Antonio to Bryan to Henderson, 10s Laredo to Corpus and mid 20s in Brownsville for the warm spot. And tomorrow morning will be colder for many, wow one of the great freezes in Texas history.

Millions of Texans are experiencing power outages (I'm not sure if the stats differentiate between rolling ones and actual outage due to failure) during one of the coldest days in Texas history and even colder tomorrow morning. The problems are only beginning.

Re: Texas Winter 2020-2021
My place in the link below. Maybe 4 to 6 inches? Been up most of night checking pipes. Outdoor bibs still dripping. Indoor mostly good. Sink in bathroom has tiny leak on shut off valves. May have been doing that before Freezemaggedon though(?).
Have a couple bowls and towels to catch slow drips until someone is able to come. We filled our bathtub a couple days ago, and have large bottles of drinking water, just in case. My parents in SA periodically lose power, off and on. Ugh.
Trying to see if I can clear a space for dog to do his thing. It is pretty out there though!
But honestly, I had my Winter fun in early January when it was 20 degrees warmer (and safer), and as much as I hate to admit it, I am truly ready for Winter Cancel!lol
