Snow started about 40 minutes ago here in Denison. Went from light snow for about five to 10 minutes to moderate to heavy snow the last half-hour.

Backyard is already white, roads are getting a film to them quickly and it's coming down at a good clip.

Meanwhile, I have two teenage boys with pickup trucks who will be driving home in this. I know local schools didn't want to shut down on just a "threat" (especially after missing two days earlier this week and seeing a forecast go bust), but they're dragging their heels and are going to create quite a mess when schools do get let out.

According to radar it should be picking up soon in Rockwall county for a good hour or so. Tarrant and Dallas counties are getting nailed right now with bands.

It appears that Lucy is mad about the North Texas folks kicking the football ... so she's lining up another chance later next week for many of us. Check out the 12z GFS.

Oh gawd ... how many times do we have to go through this torture?! :roll:

With respect to Portastorm and our friends in ATX, I hesitate to do this. But click on storm chaser Johnny Kelly's graphic link and check out the seasonal snow totals so far across dozens of U.S. cities including a few not too far away...

@stormchaser4850 - Select season #snow totals thru Thursday: Mount Washington #NH: 226.9" Perrysburg #NY: 203" Marquette #MI: 154" #USwx

That GFS run is plain ridiculous! I'm almost angry at it. :grr:

I was in Alabama last January 28th and it's eerie how similar it is.

I just measured 1 3/4 inch at my house. Almost two inches already. Since we were expecting between 1 and 2 inches, I'm assuming this should almost be done? But the snow is still falling and it doesn't look to let up soon.

You could see another inch or two through early afternoon.

I have been waiting on the models to pick up on moisture with the next front. We have not have many dry fronts recently and it being March and a strong front I would expect some good precip. Now I do not know if I can buy into the heavy snow, it looks more like a mixed set-up to me, but it is way too far out to get into those details. The Canadian is close to this, but has almost all precip ahead of the front.

You're not done, the NWS continues to ignore the RGEM and are looking pretty bad for doing so. Again, cannot believe we have our kids in school today/busses attempting to drive them home in this! Failure of leadership at most all levels!

Colossal failure. If some high school kid gets injured or worse in a wreck while driving home, well....

I agree completely. I can not even imagine a school bus out on these roads right now. In the meantime, my husband works in downtown Fort Worth- everyone has left his office, but he says he's waiting until after lunch to hopefully miss the rush...not sure that's a good idea, even in an F-250 :roll:
