WOO! RECORD. History is fun, huh?

I expected some areas around the metro (typical suburbs) to have such high amounts but no means did I expect it to be so for the record books at DFW airport. It's so tough to get high accumulation measurements there. I bet it will be above 8 inches by the 8pm update.

And to think our close and dear friend Mr. GFS nailed this storm 7 days ago

OK --- just taking a poll --- How many of you people believe in Global Warming now, after all of these snow storms?

I don't think a few snow storms out of the ordinary debunk global warming. Its about long term trends.

I'm not a complete believer in global warming, but I'm not a skeptic either and I'd tend to think its likely that the planet is warming.

I am not a complete skeptic either...CO2 is increasing with time and does add some warming. But questions remain how much....doubling CO2 from here adds about 1-2 watts/m^2 of warming.

Personally I think humanity is very egotistic (no offense to any of us lol). We think we control\cause everything. There's more at work than us, this doesn't excuse having an ignorant lifestyle though. Even though I don't think man-made global warming is as big an issue as people make it out to be, for our own good (health, economics and such) we should take care of the things around us whether it be saving energy (lower bills) or buying hybrids (lower pollution and less gas bills) etc.

I don't doubt the earth warms and cools, but I don't think we can cause it. If so who warmed the earth to end the ice age when no humans were around?

And that is a good point. But if we know c02 warms the earth and we are putting it in the atmosphere at 'record' levels who's to say were no at least contributing to the warming of the planet?

I think that's the best point really. Whether or not we believe we are warming the planet we can't deny the hazardous effects of all of the pollution we put out in the air and into the ecosystem. That alone if not anything else should cause us to be more responsible.

We ended a solar maximum a few years ago, which is what contributed to "Global Warming". It's a natural cycle the sun goes through every 11 years or so - some last longer, some are shorter. We've been in the 3rd deepest solar minimum in history recently - which is one reason this winter is so cold, and I believe the next several winters will be cold, just like in the 70's. The only 2 periods longer than the current solar minimum cycle we've been experiencing is the Maunder Minimum (aka The Little Ice Age) and the Dalton Minimum. JB talks about the current solar minimum from time to time.

I just remembered that tomorrow night the Winter Olympics start. How cool will that be having snow on the ground watching the opening ceremonies. I hear they are having an issue with lack of snow up there which from what I understand it typical in an El Nino year.

Wow..8.7 inches?! I am more than impressed! That is 3-4 times the average yearly snowfall total for Dallas all in one storm.

So have we heard any specifics on road conditions in the morning? What might be the impacts in the DFW Airport/Coppell area? I saw low temps of 30 tonight in that area, not sure how icy things may become at that temp. I know there's alot of slush in that area, but once it hasn't been snowing for a couple of hours, will the roads still get real icy? That seems like an easy question, but I'm basically asking if they'll be passable at all, not just slightly icy.

I would expect the worst on the side of precaution, Txdot said if you don't have to get on the road tomorrow morning, avoid doing so.

My son left an hour ago for work going from Denton to Fort Worth via I-35W south - he's barely 1/2 way there, and everything is icy and very dangerous. He said it was "scary" - he's 24 and not the type that gets scared, but it's already turning to ice out there.

Pfft, =P I'm more than happy with 9-10 as long as I get to experience it. But that is an amazing record for that far south (20")! Though I suppose being proximity to limitless gulf moisture would help
