Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
I guess all my complaining about missing out this winter has worked. I'm getting very lucky with this storm. Not only does the snow look pretty but the sky looks pretty too. Almost looks pinkish.

Texas Snowman wrote:JGrin87 wrote:It has gotten quite serious in many areas of metro Houston. Multiple, multiple vehicle accidents and at least on TXDOT truck overturned. Some talk of closing the freeways, but no confirmation yet. At least 1/8" ice glaze and growing in my area of W Houston. Not liking this at all!!
Any chance the ULL taps into the gulf moisture, and drops a dusting on top of all this ice?
Who knows at this point? I don't think anyone saw North Texas getting hammered the way we are tonight.
Not sure if that will happen or not. Snow seems to be more and more unlikely in our area. The ULL is already tapping into the Gulf moisture or all of TX wouldn't be having the weather it is. We have a warm layer that just won't go away so I am doubting the snow that is still forecast for our area. Maybe I will be surprised when I get up, but radar tells me otherwise. I fear this icing will keep up all night and if it does we may have some MAJOR issues by daylight, possibly including power outages from downed lines.

I'm also over 4. Still coming down steadily. Playing with this snow without gloves is fatal.
^ Kind of pointless at this point now imo. They should put out a civil emergency message that says to stay off the roads tomorrow at all costs.
Just saw a car doing a 180 down the street.

Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
From Jeff Lindner:
Extensive icing ongoing across the entire area with accumulations approaching 1/4th of an inch over Fort Bend and SW Harris counties.
Freeways are nearly impassable with heavy glazing in progress on all freeways over the entire region from Brownsville to Lake Charles and inland to I-35.
Major 15 car accident at US 290 under Beltway 8. Countless accidents across the region.
TXDOT sanding operations in progress areawide, but trucks are sliding and not able to deploy sand at certain locations.
Closures:
US 290 multiple locations
I-10 at Greenhouse and SH 99
US 59 entire freeway is closed in Fort Bend and Wharton counties.
All HWY 77 from Victoria to Schulenberg
SH 95 from Yoakum to Flatonia
Various parts of US 90 Alt
Change over to snow is moving into the NW sections of SE TX.
Travel at this time is extremely dangerous and life threatening.

You ain't kidding. I touched the snow to mount my camera on something just for 15 seconds at most. Couldn't feel my fingers for 10 minutes or so. I was getting paranoid I had frostbite.
Still coming down here. I really hope people stay off the roads. REALLY HOPE.

I just did a measurement outside. About 1-1.5 inches on roads, sidewalks, & walkways. about 2.5-2.75 inches in grass.

Not a professional MET! My posts are merely speculation.
Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
Does anyone have any accumulation totals in mind to throw out for fun? I say Dallas gets 6 or more inches. But that's my opinion!

So does anyone want to take a guess at how much longer we'll see snow in DFW?

I wouldn't be surprised if someone in southern Dallas county already is approaching 6! Consistently been heavy there based on radar.
