Something (not sure if snow or sleet) is falling from the skies in Houston (Heights) but it's still above freezing. Excited.

South Texas Storms wrote:Sleeting here in northwest Houston. SA and Austin's best chance of seeing snow/ice should occur later this evening into early tomorrow morning. Too early to give up hope over there.

I'm more optimistic about us in southeast TX seeing what's happening already this evening.

Thank you for the words of optimism. Just hate having to wait and watch while everyone is enjoying the fun.

The reason sleet/drizzle is falling despite top-down temperatures being solidly below feeezing is because there's virtually no lift/moisture in the DGZ at this time.

As the lift increase through the night and the column saturates, the transition to snow should happen fairly rapidly.

Thanks for reminding us all! Snow doesn't really form at 32F but at the layer where it's -10c to -20c above us.

I’ve been looking but so far nothing. Good luck to those in the southern half tonight.

Radars are lighting up everywhere. I know a lot of it isn’t reaching the ground yet, but seems aggressive so far.

Flurries for now for most areas along and east of I35. It will pick up intensity through the night. For N and NE TX there will be some dustings to an inch or even an isolated 2. Central Texas will see a bit more and obviously SE TX is jackpot.

Dry air holding strong over Dallas County. Wxman57 must have constructed a wall between Tarrant and Dallas counties.

Starting to see bigger flakes here.
Edit - I just went outside and definitely some sleet mixed in still. I can hear it but see snow.

to be honest, the HRRR should not be used for forecasting snow. it's good for rainfall though. The CMC, Euro, and GFS are going to win this model war if our eyes aren't playing tricks on us and its actually snowing and sticking with above freezing temps. I think the wind chill and humidity pocket is what's causing the "its not supposed to be doing this" phenomenon
