Your dgz is very low to the ground near 850mb and lower so snow is being made closer to the surface than normal. Once it gets going, it can be persistent though light.

Maybe I'll get a little good news tonight. Near Tyler, TX 20/% chance of light snow tonight. At this point I would be happy to see some steady flakes fall with no accumulation even.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does that mean? I use RadarScope too, but just for rain. I can't figure out how to make it show wintry precipitation.
