Anyone notice the HRRR is showing light snow coming through overnight instead of freezing drizzle? As moisture increases over I-20? Wonder if the cold air will stick around a little longer.

As soon as they issue the winter storm warnings and say that band will persist for the next few hours it finally starts to weaken lol

Edit: but from the looks outside it sure isn't weakening. Looked impressive on radar.

Well, if this continues, then I'll admit it ... the fact that my weather forecasts are full of the same stuff which comes out of Bevo's behind.[/quote

I agree with that.

DonWrk, how much do you have on the ground there in Collinsville?

In Denison, it's not as heavy as it was the last little while, but it's still coming down at a fair clip. Some bigger flakes too.

A Winter Weather Advisory probably should have been issued this morning for the Hill Country when it was apparent from the models that drizzle would start this afternoon and that temps would not rebound much if at all. I mean, the models showed it early today. Not like it was a big surprise. I'm not sure how valid the WWA is for the I-35 counties as temps are pretty much above freezing and with warm air advection underway, they won't drop. Trust me on this ... it's how I lost a bet earlier this winter to wxman57.

32 and drizzle here in NE Austin. Nothing freezing or sticking

A few of my videos from today

Parts 1 and 2 were the heaviest snow around 11:30am-Noon

Parts 3 and 4 were the blowing snow that happened towards the end of the accumulating snow around 2pm... Part 3 is my favorite video because it escalates as I'm filming. I haven't seen blowing snow much in Alabama so for me this was a different phenomenon lol

Great videos! It reminds me of the Christmas eve blizzard in 2009 that really blew around for several hours. You'll notice in Texas it is a lot windier than in Alabama.

Just measured and it's just under 4 inches. Still coming down here but the flakes are getting smaller. Still, these types of events are the ones I love! Almost an all day non stop snow.

Watch the radar to the west and southwest. The short range guidance are zoning in on another blowup of snow to cross in a few hours as another disturbance crosses. Again these calls for freezing drizzle may not actually be freezing drizzle until tomorrow but not overnight.

The WSI radar trend appears to support that idea... It continues to show light snow developing back to the west of us.

Yeah I've picked up on that already... this was the first snow event but I had noticed it just on dry days too how much windier it is here(and the higher criteria for a wind advisory)

I was just looking at the Wfaa radar and was thinking the same thing. Looks like a bit of development happening out west. Would love to see some snow fall overnight.

What normally takes 20 minutes took 1 hr 45 minutes from work to daughters school. Never needed a Marlboro more after that craziness. Aside from that what a gorgeous winter day today.

LATE AFTERNOON FORECAST UPDATE WAS TO BETTER ALIGN THE TEMPERATURE
FORECAST WITH CURRENT TRENDS...AS SOME OF THE FORECASTS MIN TEMPS
ARE OCCURRING EARLY. FREEZING WX GRIDS WERE ALSO ADJUSTED
SOUTHEASTWARD ALONG I-35 TO MATCH WHERE DRY LOW LEVEL AIR SHOWS A
POTENTIAL TO DROP TEMPERATURES TO FREEZING WITH THE ONSET OF
PRECIPITATION. FARTHER TO THE SW...DEW POINT DEPRESSIONS ARE
APPROACHING ZERO...AND THE SOMEWHAT STEADY RATE OF DRIZZLE FALLING
INTO THE SHALLOW COLD LAYER SHOULD EVENTUALLY WARM TEMPERATURES TO
ABOVE FREEZING LATER TONIGHT. GRIDDED DATA SHOWS NEAR STEADY
TEMPERATURES OVER MOST COUNTIES THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...THEN
WARMING TEMPERATURES AND A RETREATING FREEZING PRECIPITATION LINE
TO REFLECT IMPROVING CONDITIONS CLOSER TO DAYBREAK.
