Freezing rain is getting a little bit heavier in Denison, far more than a drizzle now. Roads are loosening up a fair amount but still icy in places, slushy in other places as as the sun gets higher. Still only 28 degrees but there's a good runoff starting down the streets as they melt. The snow on my deck furniture has a good solid hard shell of ice on it now and the trees and the power lines are starting to glisten a bit with ice. If we don't get above freezing for a while longer, ice buildup could begin to be a slight problem.

Are you liking ATX for single digit temperatures on Thursday? :D

SouthernMet, you had me at 2 degrees!!!!!!! What I find particularly disturbing? Is the way in which txdot has reacted with such late ineptitude? What's gonna happen when showtime hits next week? GFS sees something in our area, starting with that crazy 8 inch snow run yesterday. It lost everything for one run, then picked it back up. GFS has HATED Austin alllllll year? Lotta Lucy love? Now tables have turned on it. Bears Watching. Porta, I had flurries/mixed precip when I got into my truck yesterday after work in Round Rock? I caught one and LOL. Literally. We will win. Hang in there! :cold: :froze:

Texas Snowman no!! Temps don't look significantly cold at this time but definitely could see a period in the mid 20's for ATX.

Euro is 2-4" midweek for North, West, and parts of Central Texas with locally higher. The 5h pattern really reminds me of March 2008 with a very heavy thin band that wallops everyone under it but nearby nada.

The GFS has clearly lost its mind as far as next week's temperatures. 2 degrees east of Dallas? It looks like it thinks the snow will still be there on the ground. Euro says mid 20s D-FW and a light freeze into Austin. Looks a lot more reasonable.

Looking beyond next week (you know why), I really like what I'm seeing in the ECMWF & GFS. Big upper low moving into the eastern Gulf of Alaska pumping plenty of warm air into western Canada. Hopefully, that will shut down these Arctic fronts. Besides, you've already had your snow up in NE Texas (sorry about the lack of snow there, Portastorm).

I'll take whatever spring I can get! "Below normal" temperatures in mid to late March are a lot warmer than below normal temps in February. :cold:

From the HWO

AN AREA OF LIGHT SLEET AND LIGHT SNOW WILL SPREAD SOUTHEAST
ACROSS THE REGION ON WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT AS ANOTHER
ARCTIC COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH. ICE AND SNOW ACCUMULATIONS UP TO
ONE INCH ARE POSSIBLE.

From Fort Worth's afternoon discussion:

"A STRONG COLD FRONT IS PROGGED TO MOVE ACROSS NORTH TEXAS TUESDAY NIGHT AND BRING MUCH COLDER AIR AND WINDY CONDITIONS. SINCE THE UPPER LOW WILL STILL BE WEST OF THE REGION AT THIS TIME...THERE WILL BE A POTENTIAL FOR MORE WINTER WEATHER WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT. IT IS MUCH TOO EARLY TO ASSESS THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS FROM THIS EVENT BUT FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST THAT SLEET WOULD BE THE PRIMARY PRECIPITATION TYPE AND IF MODEL QPF IS CORRECT...IT COULD BE MEASURABLE AND POSSIBLY SIGNIFICANT. ALL PRECIPITATION SHOULD END BY THURSDAY AS THE UPPER TROUGH AXIS PASSES TO THE EAST."
