Texas Snowman wrote:BREAKING NEWS from the IWantSnow.com Network: Reports from scenic southwest Austin indicate that PWC founder and executive director Portastorm is believed to be asleep as snow is being reported early this morning throughout portions of the Capitol City.

Fearing that an extra-heavy dose of sleep inducing Benadryl has been slipped into Porta's mug of late-night hot chocolate (the one and only suspect at the moment is a certain Heat Miser from Houston), local authorities have been dispatched.

They are said to currently be pounding on Porta's door, imploring him to wake up and see snow falling.

Nearby neighbors report hearing cries from the authorities of "Portastorm, Omaha, Omaha, it's snowing in Austin! This isn't a dream! Lucy has fumbled the football!!!"

Details as they become available.

:froze: :cold: :jacket: :sled:

Once again, you delivered the goods. Porta may know it's snowing because he may be outside, running around like a giddy schoolgirl who just opened a Barbie doll house on Christmas morning.

Texas Snowman wrote:Portastorm, wake up!!! Reports of snow in Austin. Is it snowing at the PWC in scenic southwest Austin?!? We need a field report from our fearless leader!!! :D

I hate to put the kibosh on all of Texas Snowman's wonderful, creative writing but it's not snowing in Austin to my knowledge. And I've been up and monitoring things since 5:30 a.m. We did have reports of some light sleet in southern parts of the city. The big winners were San Marcos and New Braunfels who both experienced thundersleet/snow this morning! And light accumulations.

Just cold and windy here at the PWC. Sorry I don't have a more exciting report for you.

Snow is starting to accumulate on elevated surfaces in NW Harris County. HGX expands Winter Weather Advisory to include Harris and Liberty Counties.

From jeff:

Lots of reports of sleet and snow incoming this morning across areas north of I-10.

I just drove through heavy sleet at US 290 and 610 enough to cover the ground so radar returns are in fact reaching the ground. Reports from Conroe and Monaville indicate snow is falling and starting to accumulate. Sub-cloud layer is saturating enough to from the top down to result in precipitation to reach the ground. Surface temperatures are at or below freezing from Katy to Cypress to Conroe and this is where precipitation is starting to accumulate on grassy surfaces and elevated structures. While sleet/snow is heavy enough to accumulate in Harris County, surface temperature is just above freezing and once the precipitation stops it will melt.

North of the freezing line, melting precipitation (snow/sleet) on contact with a slightly warmer road surface will result in some possible glazing of bridges and overpasses with a thin layer of ice.

Winter Weather Advisory just issued for Harris County until 1000am

Not everywhere. No snow at my house. Maybe it'll move in but according to radar it should be snowing. Must be a nice virga shower.

It's okay, Porta! I haven't seen a single snowflake either! Just dealing with warm temps in the teens and a windchill near zero.

The NWS should extend the WWA east at least one more county IMO. The roads are icy here in Weatherford. 3/10" accumulation and light snowing (although it's snowing harder now than it was earlier.)

Where is South Texas Storms? Not only did his hometown of San Antone see some wintry action this morning but his beloved Aggieland in College Station is reportedly seeing a good falling right now of snow and sleet. He must be going nuts!

Along with srainhoutx's ground truth report of snow/sleet, there are lots of reports over on KHOU's forum of snow/sleet falling in the Houston area.

Just drove into work from SW Houston along the south loop then down I-45. Could see an occasional white streak in my headlights. Looks like small snow grains, which are partially-melted snowflakes. They appear to be falling from the mid-level cloud deck, passing through the warm nose and partially melting, then reaching a freezing layer just above the ground and re-freezing before finally reaching the ground as little balls of ice with a lower density than sleet. Not quite graupel.

Precip area has moved on by now. Nothing more coming from the west.

Light snow across much of the north and west immediate metroplex now. This is some dry powdery stuff. Enough to turn streets a wintry white.

Left for work with light snow in McKinney, when I got to Plano there was talcum powder like snow everywhere. Dusty style, like Caprock sands blowing on the road.
