I didn't think there would be much left for this system to work with, but the signs are encouraging. It'll have to be watched closely, the local mets might be surprised again.

Yeah Pflugerville is one of the school districts cancelling classes. The city offices and facilities have also announced they will be closed tomorrow. My work put out an "inclement weather" email today advising us to check tomorrow morning about the status of our business for the day.

I've never seen AISD call off school the night before with nothing happening weatherwise. This is really fascinating in terms of weather-school politics-public safety. I wasn't on that conference call earlier but I gotta believe EWX sounded the warning claxons. Also, some speculation out there that ERCOT's advisory late this afternoon asking Texans to conserve energy over the next 24 hours might be playing a role as well.

You have got to be kidding me. This new interim president at A&M must be from way up north or something. We have only had classes cancelled until 10 am one day during these 3 winter weather events here. Ice has been on campus each time as well. This is getting ridiculous...

Main roads are pretty good here (78 beltline plano road) mostly but large patches of snow/ice are everywhere.
most turn lanes in far north garland are also solid snow/ice

Which IMO will make drivers too confident for tomorrow....

Just as I was about to post that the latest RAP sounding aren't looking as encouraging as they did earlier (thick dry layer still present), latest GFS run comes in with more precip - showing anywhere from .03-.05 inch QPF for the metroplex. This is in line with the Euro earlier today....hmmmmmm

Porta, you should change that avatar I am still waiting for my wintry fix this winter. I think a more appropriate avatar would be, "You want snow? I didn't get a lick of precipitation here today. There was a band north and south of me but I think Porta's omega block has extended to my portion of ETX this winter. Fret not my dear Austinites and East Texans in my neck of the woods. I am currently orchestrating a plot with our friend SScreamer and friends in West Texas down towards Baja California to point all their fans in this direction. SScreamer will have all the Canadians point their fans down this way to deliver us the cold air, while those in West Texas and on towards Baja California will use theirs to blow the Omega Block over Texarkana and also deliver us moisture from the STJ. Once we get our snow and Texarkana gets nothing, I'm filling an ice chest with snow and taking it up there to throw snowballs at aggiecutter.

It may just be my take on things, but it seems like they've done that most of this winter.

Start strong, lose the storm a few days out or trend it much weaker, and then surprise everyone with something that is more than expected in the end.

wrf is similar, with banding snowfall coming in from west texas, staying along & north of i-20.

edit : nws just issued a WWA for the 2 rows of counties north if i-20, including Denton, Wise, Collin, Cooke & Grayson counties.
