It did, but the 1979 and 1997 SSW Event didn't and this event appears much stronger than 12-13 and somewhat similar to the 79/97 event in strength and February timing. Still need to see indication of a full wind reversal, but some "hints" have been observed today that suggest that wind reversal may have begun. We will know in about 3 days or so.

It's 32 here at the house, and I smell a major bust with the over night forecast, with temps in the 20s anything that falls will be sleet, and if the precipitation is heavier than models have shown it can cool the column enough higher up that a brief change over to snow may be possible. Don't think temps for Sunday will make it out of the upper 30s.

You may be thinking of 2011-2012. EPO was very positive that winter and the Pacific overwhelmed any SSW impacts. Easier path was Europe.

The late winter 2013 SSW had snow in the SE US in March and some unusual cold. It also was when the NE Pac warm blob got going.

As usual the Pacific tropics dictates if the SSW works or not for NA. 1985 and 2010 (along with analogs srain mentioned) had better Pac

Pretty much all the 18z guidance has come in drier for DFW, tihs looks like it will end up just being another novelty event with a bit of freezing drizzle and maybe a sleet pellet here or there.

I think Q is right, the '13 event was in January and most of the US ended up above avg temp wise for January and February. I don't know if the cooler March across portions of the US can be tied back to the January event or not.

Curse of the winter wx advisory lol

It is why when I read posts about next weekend I chuckle...
I have never lived anywhere like this, where winter weather events literally disappear / dissipate right at the moment they are supposed to happen.
Crazy.
If we could get just one solid winter weather event here in DFW, it all sure would be easier to take!!!
