Latest RUC sounding says around 2PM. GFS says between 12PM-1PM. You're on track. You should see an increasing amount of sleet in the next 1-2 hours then a changeover to snow.

It has been snowing off and on for the last one and a half to two hours in Pflugerville (just north of Austin). Currently, moderate to heavy snow (all snow), with current accumulations of 1/2 to 1 inch. It really is beautiful to see and well worth the plane ticket I paid for.

I've now had my winter season fix, and look forward to intercepting a hurricane. :D :grrr:

Radar is indicating that the beginning of your changeover is very near. Like wxman said probably within an hour or 2 at the most I would guess based on the radar, if not sooner.

CypressMike wrote:NW Harris county is toast. I believe the temp and dewpoint are way too high for snow today...or even tonight. At best, I think we might see some sleet and a few flakes mixing in as the precip winds down.

Just remember that the prediction was that rain would fall until around 5pm. Then a bit of sleet, then some snow the last hour or two of the precip. Surface temps will likely remain above freezing, so the snow will steadily melt. But if it snows hard enough then you could see some temporary accumulations of snow on cars and grassy areas. You can get an inch that way. But it'll be gone tomorrow. South side of Houston will see a shorter period of snow and only minor temporary accumulations. Nothing like the Dec. 4th event. Temps during the snow will be about 2-4F warmer than with that event.

Any chances at the radar filling in as the Low moves east? getting sparse here/

absolutely. With the graph someone just posted putting the Low still deep in west texas, as it moves closer towards the gulf, it will deepen. Thats my opinion. As long as the precip keeps falling your temp should stay down till more bands really gain strength.

Houston you arent out of the woods yet. There is cold air above you, just need some precip to help bring the temps down. I think NW Houston gets a dusting on grassy surfaces. SW Houston, like in SL, will see flakes but no significant accumulation late tonight.

Right now heavy sleet is back (Nacogdoches). I can hear it on my window "pinging" away

Don't forget the early disturbances are ringing out the moisture before the ULL arrives. Everything is basically going as the models predicted.

It has started a light rain here in the Spring Branch area of Houston. Maybe the temps will start to drop now. I still think the current progs are good for us which means I will see about an inch of snow before all is said and done.
edit: Radar is starting to fill in some to our SW. Looks like the models could be underestimating the moisture available, but our temps have to drop several degrees before much of anything in the way of wintry precip will happen here in Houston metro

ringing out atmosphere enough to not allow for the Low to deepen and fill in the radar?

where is a good site for viewing radar that shows the changeover from rain to snow.. instead of it all showing up just as precip?

Here in Pflugerville we are getting really big flakes and snowing really good. My backyard is covered and starting to stick to the sidewalks and street.

The snowflakes are larger than silver dollars here and starting to snow a little harder. The grill in the backyard has 2 inches or more already.

Edited for spelling.
