Oh just wait Porta. Just wait. Wait until August when it is 100 and going for the 4 day in a row. He will be so crowing and rubbing it in.

Even with all that winter fun yesterday, I only managed to receive .15 inches of liquid precip. I love winter weather as much as anyone on here, but right now I'd rather have a super cell stall right on top of me or a squall line train over me. We really need the rain.

Things are going to get really interesting tonight around here. Especially with the QPFs showing what they are showing. :froze:

Hmm, what if summer never returned?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_Without_a_Summer

Note that one of the causes was historically low solar activity (something we're currently observing). My coworker thinks we may be heading for a mini ice age.

Update from Jeff:

NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas along an north of US 59 starting at 1100pm tonight for accumulations of freezing rain and sleet.

Bitter cold arctic air mass is entrenching over the region and light to moderate rainfall is expected to begin to develop after 1100pm along US 59 and overspread the region overnight. Freezing rain and ice accumulations of .03 to .10 of an inch are possible in the advisory area along and north of US 59 making travel potentially extremely dangerous on Tuesday morning….including the NW ½ of Harris County.

Air temperatures in the low to mid 20’s have cooled roadway surfaces to near/below freezing (US 290 at SH 6) is currently reporting a roadway temperature of 25.6 degrees. While there will be some recovery today with the high March sun angle…think roadway surfaces will cool quickly to freezing this evening.

There is still some uncertainty on exactly where the freezing line ends up tonight…but it is looking increasingly likely that some degree of ice accumulation is possible over portions of the area including the western and northern parts of Harris County Tuesday morning.

We will find out in a few years, the first low minimum was during the 2008-2010 frame and was as low as 1890s-1900s. I notice the past year we have challenged some chill records (even if we didnt achieve them they were threatened) from the early 1900s. Solar max is occuring right now and is the lowest for a max since who knows when. Next min will be 2018-2020, could approach dalton or maunder mins. Now we just need toba to go off.

Very historic in the annals of history. Part of the cause of the Panic of 1819 ( back when we (the US) was hugely agricultural. Had an affect on the real estate market as well. So yeah, historic that was...

I have a feeling a "summer that never was" would still have 90s for highs in Texas. lol We would probably just be lucky to escape the triple digits.

...or Yellowstone. The Yellowstone supervolcano tends to erupt every 600,000 years. Its last eruption was 640,000 years ago, so it is quite "due". It could be argued that the bad (death, destruction, worldwide famine) would outweigh the good (nice cool summers):

The SREF had an average of .50 qpf but NWS is expecting .03 to .10?

Correction .63 for HOU

No, you don't want that. You want a good, long, gentle, soaking rain over a few days.

Your coworker is right. I have the same thought. We are currently in a "hot" house world going into a "cold" house world. Right before ice ages, the Earth heats up, unpredictable weather. We have seen evidence of this in the geologic record. Won't be a flash freeze like several movies have shown, but a gradual cooling.

Well, Texas ( Not Louisiana) was a part of Mexico and "just" starting to be settled by folks. ( No disrespect to those already here..) I am sure, somewhere, folks keep records of weather....

I've seen discussion of that in quite a few places.

From what I've seen, when Yellowstone goes, Texas won't have to worry about much of anything for a very long time.
