Ready for the thaw. The 60s upcoming look nice with some sun. Sleet is cool for a while but winter is not over. Let's get that big snowstorm and call it a season.

What is being cut back, to 0 or just a lot less than it was?
I'm sitting at 29゚and my car is covered in ice.

Looks like the main S/W rotating around the base of the ULL may eject just far enough south to spare DFW of the worst. Still a little early to call but a good sign
Have around 0.15 to 0.25 QPF for today (over 1/2 inch total), can’t spare much more

Of course, the 18z RGEM is having none of that talk. It has been one of the more accurate hi-res models through this event.

Well the radar filled back in SSW of Denton.
I'm starting to get a bit concerned with the amount of fez rain I'm getting.

Yeah, can’t really afford many more of these waves before the main wave moves thru later tonight….

Never has it been this bad in Austin
Yep I've got limbs that broke up in a 24yr old oak tree canopy now crashing down.

This must have been a pretty historic event down that way, given the number of pics coming out of huge old trees crumbling under the ice.

Ice accretion has really picked up since sunset. I'm pretty sure the hi-res models missed this incoming wave. OOz HRRR for 02z

Abt .75" on average with .62 at Camp Mabry per NWS.
(Ice amounts specifically I should clarify)
Shouldve been in ice storm warning

EWX doesn't issue Ice Storm Warnings. For simplicities sake, their office only issues Winter Storm Warnings for significant winter events.

It’s going to be close, each model has a core swath 50-60 miles wide that gets pummeled…HRRR and NAM have been trending southeast with it. NBM and RDPS are direct hit on Metroplex. This wave may be the difference between a mundane ending or a power outage catastrophe

Interesting difference b/w DFW 00z soundings; last night actually had a deeper warm layer aloft than tonight, but the lower level cold layer is shallower tonight.

Down here in Taylor Tx and it’s a battleground they have to be pushing .75 inches of ice trees falling every couple of minutes it’s insane idk that I have ever seen this much ice. Folks in DFW better be thanking the sun for keeping ice totals down today.

That’s awful! May approach 3/4” plus later tonight according to latest NAM output. I’d say currently 1/4” plus on trees with this latest wave

If this happens in DFW tonight we might have 300k plus out in the metro plex. This is insane down here.
