Re: Texas Winter 2022-2023
Things have rapidly improved here in Far North Dallas (Addison) since sundown.
Just took our dog for a walk and we didnt encounter any icy sidewalks this time - mostly wet slush, but tons of water from melting ice though.
If things do start to refreeze soon, some areas could get dicey from that melt water, but looks like I'll be commuting tomorrow morning. Drat.

I have a central Texas friend that just lost power. I don’t care what the models say at this point, after looking how the radar is now setting up towards DFW from Mexico, I just got my generator setup ready for a middle of the night outage. Whatever your plan may be, it’s worth a couple minutes now making sure you would be ready rather than dealing with it in the middle of the night.

I'm on Spring Valley between Preston and Hillcrest and have a completely different situation. Trees and anything else elevated is picking up layers of ice rapidly. Still solid ice on our driveway and sidewalks. Spring Valley seems to be driveable, but I have to imagine it is going to freeze back over tonight.

I’m at Belt Line / Floyd. My temp has crept up to 31 and dew point to 28.

Must be something unique about where I am, I definitely seem to be in the minority. I'm just posting what's going on by me, please don't anyone make a decision to go out based on my post. THERE ARE DEFINITELY ICED ROADS

Temp is up to 29.7 from 27 a couple of hours ago as the heavy rain started. My guess is latent heat release from the warm nose. I feel things are going to be ok this way. Trees and icicles are impressive. Pavement is ok for now.

Yes I’m afraid people in DFW are going to sleep thinking it’s over only to wake up to big problems.

I'm thinking when I go to sleep is that I'm going to wake up to an Icy landscape. That is why my school called tomorrow a snow day.

Well the final act is starting….Radar returns really starting to pop between San Angelo and Austin. All about timing now between rising temps and precip onset

Ch8 Pete Delkus said above 32 in DFW by 9:00am tomorrow and Ch5 Rick Mitchell thinks heat rise has plateaued until mid to late morning to get above freezing.
At least it’s not in the 20’s anymore but lots of qpf to come below freezing. Not good.
How cold has it been in the Hill Country with all the problems you folks have had?

Another wave moving into DFW. I think we can throw out the low QPF models at this point. As others have pointed out, it's a race between QPF and temps for DFW tonight.

Looks like more is loading up towards brownwood again. I don’t think temps are going to move much if any. Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much ice may already be on power lines in DFW?

My weather station showed temps were between 30.5 and 32.0 when the heavy rain fell while I was asleep. Iced all the trees and weighed them down.

Thanks. That’s what I was afraid of.
I noticed Rick Mitchell called for only .10” more of ice overnight. Pete Delkus still had .25”-.5”. Major difference there given what’s already on trees and power lines.
