There is gridlock on I-20 in Parker county near Weatherford with folks stuck for hours. Just as stuff starts coming in.

It’s unusual that Ice hasn’t posted anything since yesterday evening. Even Brent hasn’t posted today. Power issues up there?

I'm good. We haven't had any new precip here since before sunset yesterday. Worst is definitely south today

Thunder sleet here in downtown Dallas. It’s coming down…we just need to keep this sleet and then snow when the ULL passes over.

The temperature rose to 35F overnight here. It's currently 33.8F.

Ouachita block winning still.

Temp hit 30 briefly today after dipping below freezing around 730 AM. Hovered around 29 most of the day and now at 28. Branches are starting to have ice on them but not heavy, mainly from freezing fog. Roads are fairly clear at this point. NWS Aus?SAT indicate anywhere from 0.25" to 0.75" ice accumulation. That would definitely bring down some branches and probably impair power. Our subdivision is on well water and if we lose power, we lose water. Tub is full. We have a 400 ft elevation gain from wells to homes. Wish they had backup generators onsite but they do not. Could be a long two days but at least not as bad as Feb two years ago when the temp got to 2.8F.

Be safe out there! In our part of the start we expect the heaviest precip to occur tomorrow night into Wednesday. If y’all remain at that 28-29 mark, it’s going to be rough out there.

Here in the Austin area, I’m still not convinced this is going to be a bad event for us. In the outlying areas of the county … yes, definitely. But for most of the county we have been holding today around 32-33 degrees. I’ve seen these events so many times over the years and usually when we hit the floor on temps, they don’t budge much further. To really see an ice impact, you’ve got to be in the 30 degree and below range.

Most of the short range models keep us here and even the 18z NAM warms us up a degree or two. The WRF-ARW and RGEM are the only models I’ve seen which drop our temps a few degrees over the next 48 hours.

UPDATE … well, unfortunately, temperatures here did fall into the upper 20s and this morning every elevated roadway of bridge is ice glazed. We’ve already had a traffic fatality and tons of accidents across the area. And this event in terms of QPF is just getting started!

Looks like Austin and San Antonio have a long icy day ahead of them. Be safe down there. We are all hoping for all sleet up here.

The combination of Frz Rain and Sleet with this system moving thru is going to make roads practically impassable in DFW. It’s not just one or the other. Worst case for travel unfolding
