It sure does feel good outside today. 65 and breezy here in Houston. I will greatly miss these refreshing temps in a few months.

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
Smokehouse Creek Fire now officially 850k acres. It grew 550k acres last night sure to the cold front changing wind direction. Before the front the fire was moving east along a 20 or so mile edge. Front change movement to the south so it then had a 100 or so mile edge to move along and strong winds to propel it. Thankfully the weather is much better today. If anything left this weekend then it will rage again so hopefully they can gain significant containment today and tomorrow. This weekend could bring new fires in the Panhandle with dry and windy conditions.

Final (bonus!) day of the thread and I'm getting some light sleet mixing with the rain in North Dallas.

How ironic is that it's snowing and sleeting in the panhandle while fighting fires.

Lets hope these moderate snow/rain showers is enough to put these fires out. It looks solid enough at the moment.

Headline on SCW is “Today may be our final day in the 50s for the next eight months”
Proper way to end February and the meteorological winter.

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
This should end up being a Top 5 (if not Top 3) warmest February on record for DFW.
That said, with January being well below average, this Winter as a whole will fall just short of the Top 10 warmest list.

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
True, but this rare Leap Day end to meteorological winter sure feels like winter
It’s 39 and overcast in Denison at 1 pm, so a fire in the wood burning stove seems an appropriate way to send this winter that wasn’t out the door…

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
Interesting story for Leap Day weather in Texomaland. Wonder if there’s a similar one for DFW?

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
Good riddance to one of the worst winters Tulsa has ever had. Absolutely pathetic other than the week in January. To be so close to big snowstorms so many times and never get one for the second winter in a row but I think the real icing on the cake is the last 10 days when Tulsa had the most 70+ degree highs in a row on record in the winter
On the flip side next winter is bound to be better... I didn't think we could do worse than last winter but yeah we definitely hit rock bottom here because we were so close so many times

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
With the January prolonged freeze (low teens) and sleet storm that stayed on the ground for several days, I can't call the winter a bust here. Plenty of years we don't get any frozen precip at all or temps below the mid-20's.
Bring on spring and thunderstorms.
