not "official" I guess -- but very wintry in MSP!

#1 Postby Margie » Wed Dec 14, 2005 2:37 pm

My first post...a friend (who no longer has a home, thanks to Katrina) directed me here, but post-season is the first chance I've got to visit. I LOVE the "snowsilver" background, with snowflakes sprinkling down, and the fun holiday avatars. What a great backdrop for discussing weather (of every kind) in the wintertime.

We'll probably have an accumulated foot of snow here in MSP by the end of the week. Very pretty here today. Winter came early this year (cold temps and snow starting in earnest some weeks ago).

Welcome to the board. Hope you have a snow shovel handy. The next few weeks may be pretty white up your way!

Welcome to storm2k!

We've seen 4-5" of snow in Madison today (2 of which fell in one hour this morning!). Close to a foot on the ground in most places, though we've had ~20" already this season. Looks like we'll have a white xmas!

Thanks everyone who replied.

Today I came home from work and we'd had another inch or so of snow, and there were BUNNY TRACKS up the driveway and onto my deck! I'd left various critter nibbles there.

Mpls St Paul, i.e. the "Twin Cities" (definitely a misnomer...there are Mpls folks and St Paul folks and ne'er the twain shall meet).

Minne-so-ta. Swedish heritage. People driving the wrong way on freeways (yes, every couple months one is in the news). "You betcha." A few sprinkles of black pepper make food "too spicy." Fluffy white people that wear shorts when it's 40 degrees out. The Pillsbury dough-boy could only have come from here. Mass quantities of yarn shops. Ole and Lena jokes. A winter festival timed to coincide with the 10 days of the year that temps never get above -15 (F), including a contest that involves digging in the snow for hours. Months of white snow covering everything, grey/white sky with no sunshine. Waiting until Mother's Day to plant anything. Going to the lake. Northwest sky still light at 10:30pm in the summertime. The amazing MN State Fair. Trying to avoid anything Prairie Home Companion. Downtown buildings all connected by a maze of skyways. "Rocky and Bullwinkle" inspiration ("Frostbite Falls"). Trying to avoid anything Charles Shultz. Mall of America (MOA), largest American shopping mall, now with IKEA across the street. Sometimes, great cross-country skiing.

I've been to the Twin Cities a few times. The last time I was thre was nearly six years ago for a weekend of shopping at MOA. :) I have been to the MN State Fair. We got caught in a severe t-storm there in 1994.
