It's beginning to feel a lot like winter

:hoola:

NWS Birmingham Evening update:

THE CLOSED LOW MOVES EAST OVER ALABAMA MONDAY NIGHT. PARTIAL
THICKNESSES TAKE A NOSE DIVE...AND APPROACH SNOW THRESHOLDS ON THE
BACK SIDE OF THE PRECIPITATION FIELD. GFS MODEL SOUNDINGS...WHICH
ARE MUCH COLDER THAN NAM SOUNDINGS...INDICATE ICE CRYSTALS WILL FORM
ABOVE 700 MB...BUT WILL MELT AS THEY FALL BELOW 850 MB. IT SHOULD
REMAIN TOO WARM BELOW 850 MB FOR ANY FROZEN OR FREEZING
PRECIPITATION AT THIS TIME. AFTER ALL...IT IS ONLY NOVEMBER.

Just the fact that there's a mention this time of year is awesome.

It is about 50 and raining here in Houston tonight and is expected to fall to the lower to middle 40s with more showers by Morning. Tomorrow looks to be another day here struggling to hit 60 with overcast skies. We even had our first freeze (in NW Houston) last Thursday. We have not been above 63 here in Houston since Tuesday the 15th..and are not forecast to do so until Monday the 21st...considering our average January high is 60, it sure is feeling like winter. We should get back to more November like weather (around 70) this week...but it looks like it could get cold again after Thanksgiving.

If only...

MONDAY IS SHAPING UP TO BE ONE OF THOSE COLD RAINY DAYS. THE
SURFACE LOW PRESSURE WILL BE APPROACHING THE AREA. BY MONDAY...THE
ATMOSPHERE SHOULD BE PRETTY SATURATED...SO I DO EXPECT RAIN TO
FALL ACROSS MOST OF THE FORECAST AREA. IN ADDITION TO DEALING WITH
THE COLD RAIN...A TIGHT PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL BE DEVELOPING OVER
THE AREA WHICH WILL INCREASE WINDS TO A STEADY 10 TO 15 MPH RANGE.
AS PREVIOUSLY DISCUSSED...THIS TYPE OF WEATHER PATTERN WHERE AN
UPPER LEVEL CLOSED LOW IN COMBINATION WITH A SURFACE LOW PRESSURE
APPROACH THE FORECAST AREA IS VERY FAVORABLE FOR SNOW FALL.

HOWEVER...THIS STILL DOES NOT LOOK LIKE IT WILL HAPPEN...AT LEAST
FOR US. THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN SEE HAPPENING IS A FEW REPORTS
OF SLEET...ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THE SET UP IS
THERE FOR SNOW...BUT THE COLD TEMPERATURES NEAR THE SURFACE ARE
JUST NOT THERE. IF THIS SET UP OCCURS LATE IN DECEMBER OR IN
JANUARY...THEN THINGS WOULD BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
THE ONLY
THING THAT WE WILL HAVE TO WATCH CLOSELY ON MONDAY IS HOW
EVAPORATIVE COOLING WILL OCCUR ACROSS THE DRY LAYER IS RAIN MOVES
ACROSS IT. I DO NOT THINK THERE WILL BE ENOUGH RAIN TO COOL OFF
TEMPS TO NEAR FREEZING...BUT JUST IN CASE...WE WILL KEEP WATCHING
THINGS CLOSELY.

Just put my flannel PJ bottoms on for the first time since last winter. Still have the windows cracked though. 55 F at Homestead AFB, 70 at Marathon, so probably 65 here. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. A/C off for the rest of the year I hope.

I am thinking about relocating, and was considering moving northward. It got cold here the past week or so (like 32 at night, brrrrrrrrrrr!) I then realized north wasn't for me, if I can't even take freezing.

It snowed for the first time here in southwestern Connecticut this morning; there was enough to cover the ground by around 8am or so before it changed over to rain.
