has anyone looked at the wind map on weather bug in the SW USA. it goes from variable in las vegas to 30mph+ in yuma, arizona, any ideas?

Outflow boundry.. Downsloping..Typo.. I dunno..lol just an idea.. :cheesy:

It's neither actually, if you had checked the dewpoints you would have seen Yuma's dewpoint jump into the 70's. This is what is called a Gulf Surge from the Sea of Cortés where the cooler and much more moist air rushes in to replace the superheated air over the Deserts. This one was triggered in part by the presence of TS Emilia off of Baja. This is part of the monsoon pattern over the Desert SW and blows the Dry Heat out the window when it happens. When thunderstorms coming off the Mogollon Rim hit this moisture and the dynamics of the accompanying LLJ, all hell breaks loose in the PHX area and points to the south and west.

BTW, for those convinced that AZ gets only dry heat, the dewpoint in PHX was in the mid to upper 70's most of the night last night and even peaked at 81F for two observations. An 81F dewpoint doesn't sound too dry to me.
