Reasons for optimism, at least climatologically, for DFW.

Tomorrow (8/12) the daily average low starts to drop. On Thursday (8/15) the daily average high starts to do the same.

The next week or two may be seasonably hot, but we're starting to run out of time (climatologically) for things to get truly out of hand.

My weather nerdiness comes out when the averages drop although it does take a while for the actual temps to respond. Hopefully after the next 2 weeks we start to see a difference with some rain chances. It was about this time 2 years ago DFW had that huge rain that abruptly ended the summer of 2022.

I am looking forward to the shift to standard time, but the coming Winter 24/25 already doesn't look that promising. CPC is forecasting La Nina (weak-Moderate) to be coupled with the start of Solar Maximum for 2025.

Yeah I dunno even up here I'm gonna have a lot of snowy trip ideas this winter because I don't trust it anymore. Everyone said last winter would be good and then I had one plan in almost March thinking that and yeah not happening again...

Next week is the third week of August, past the hottest point of the year, and they're saying this will be the hottest week so far (107ish here at some point).

Next week looks absolutely brutal...especially across north TX. About as bad as it gets around here. Parts of north TX will likely see high temperatures reach near 110F for several days next week.

Meanwhile, flash drought may also become a concern (believe it or not).

The EWX also had a sentence early this morning about a "...new development from earlier model runs..." with a ridge rider potential mid-next week. Waiting for consistency. Something more hopeful to look at instead of the same ole' rinse repeat. Low chance is better than NO chance.

The Subtropical Ridge becomes more expansive and stronger, possibly
600 dam at 500 MB, this weekend through the middle of next week. A
combination of subsidence under the Ridge and slightly below normal
moisture levels (PWs) keep rain out of the forecast. However, a new
development from earlier model runs is a mid level impulse rotating
around the Ridge over our area during the middle of next week that
brings a slug of increased moisture resulting in low chances of
rain. For now, will leave POPs out and wait for trends to be more
consistent.
