Seems like every Tampa AFD the last week or so has been promising more moisture and rain within the next couple of days only for little if any to materialize.

It hasn't been a great rainy season down here either.

SE Florida is down 14” of rain since January and I heard that from the local weather out of Miami.

A week later we are still in a big drought in SFL. What a miserable pattern. Rainy season is going to end with us in a deficit for the actual drought season to begin.

Most def a non normal August in central Fl. This month normally produces torrential widespread rains at any time.
This is the month to fill our aquifers for the post rainy season stretch. May need a strong tropical system to replenish sad to say.

The only way SE Florida will get rain is from a tropical system, we haven’t had SW winds all summer to bring the thunderstorms over the east coast.

Looks like indeed a tropical system (Hurricane Erin) was required to change the steering flow across Florida to more of a west to east flow which nearly always yields big storms for the east coast of Florida. Last two days have featured plentiful rain for a change after many weeks of feeling like being in a desert here.

The other added bonus is that it pushed all of the Sargassum seaweed out to sea and away from the shoreline.

Over on the west coast, it has been a pleasant surprise with the subdued temperatures the last few days and also projected into the weekend. Rains the last few days kept temps in the mid-80s and this weekend a stalled front looks like more mid-80's.

No cool air today but humidities were in the 40-50% range this afternoon at my place in Clearwater. Felt nice in the shade and a rare August FROPA.
