#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Wed Feb 25, 2004 10:57 am

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for southern Florida including Naples, Miami, and Homestead in effect this Wednesday morning and afternoon from 10:35 am until 4 pm est.

Hail to 1 inch in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and near the watch area. Persons in these areas need to be on the lookout for threatening weather and listen for later statements and this following warning below!!!

The NWS in Miami, Florida has issued a tornado warning for Collier County, Florida in effect until 11 am. This is a doppler indicate tornado 8 miles southwest of Immokale as of 10:30 am moving east at 30 mph.

A second tornado warning has just been issued for central Hendry County including the town of Devils Garden in effect until 11:15 am est. This is a doppler indicated tornado. Fort Myers has clocked a recent gust of 56 mph with this line of storms. In addition to the threat of tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail is likely with this severe thunderstorm. Stay indoors on the lowest floor of your home or business, preferably a basement and stay away from windows until this storm passes.

More updates to follows as the warnings come in. Busy day today, stay tuned.

It's been a nice day here in Central Florida. Very calm and cloudy. The calmness kinda scares me.. But I'm not too worried only because it hasn't rained any yet
