Was just on the phone with my son in San Diego who was just leaving his office near the 905 and border with Mexico and mid-conversation he announced....
"Hey dad, there's a funnel cloud...maybe a tornado...just above the ground here over the 905! I'm driving right toward it, so I hope it lifts or moves faster than I do!"
It did dissipate, but he said it was impressive against the blue sky in the background and the heavy clouds overhead.
He has seen a number of them over the years in the Midwest, so he knows what he is looking at.
The elevated tone in his voice told me he was seeing the real thing. That would have been at about 10:40 am Pacific Time.
