Thanks to an deepening upper level trough across the Eastern CONUS, we have been given a very nice reprieve from the heat and humidity now through Saturday. Breezy NW wind conditions today feels very refreshing and highs will only reach the mid-upper 70s today and tomorrow here in Jax area and lows will dip into mid-upper 40s across interior North Florida, both Friday and Saturday mornings. I will take this weather in early May for sure!! Everyone enjoy this 2-day reprieve from the heat and humidity. The upper level trough lifts out and away late Saturday and we will back to near 90 degrees on Mother's Day.

NDG wrote:I see SE FL got the much needed rain, this is a pattern that we only see during an El Niño year, so in another words a La Niña or neutral pattern has not set in yet.
I will not be surprised if the the summer wet season starts early this year.

Yeah but the heavier amounts were only confined to two locations. The northern Treasure Coast, and the Miami metro areas. Basically anywhere in between saw light amounts of around an half an inch or so. Here in my exact location in Northern Palm Beach County we saw only a downpour or two but mostly hit and miss light rain.

The excessive cloud cover put a lid on any intense to severe storms despite a few here in there. Earlier on Wednesday morning the NWS: Miami was saying how the models were backing away a bit on the excessive cloud cover and an weak East Coast Sea Breeze could develop which never materialized.

This for sure northjaxpro one heck of an trough that is swinging through the Eastern and Southeastern U.S.! If this were say four or even five months ago we probably could be talking a widespread freeze down into Central South FL! I even have the windows and doors wide open as we speak and it's early May! :D

Another thing to note is the NAO has been swinging between negative and neutral every other week and seems to be on a negative trend, something fortunatley we did not see all winter or the past handful of winters. The AO too has been behaving the same, and the PNA has been positve though now trending negative.

Also, what purpose does the AAO play? I never hear much if any about it.

It bottomed out at 47.6 degrees at the home base this morning. I know this cool spell will be extremely short-lived, but this is fantastic weather for May 6 for sure. Crisp, and cool! It will be back into the upper 40s again for tomorrow morning for likely the last time until about October. Enjoy this fantastic reprieve from the heat and humidity these next couple of days. The heat and humidity comes back beginning on Mother"s Day as we get back to our typical 90 degree weather.

Refreshing late season cold front. Good because it was uncomfortably warm and humid the day before. Nice cool refresher before equatorial humidity sets in in 2 weeks.

Today is the 5th consecutive day I've gone without using my AC...quite remarkable for May. After the May like weather we had in March it's nice for nature to even the score. Both the 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks show above normal temps in what is normally a hot time of the year so here it comes!

I thought SW flow means somewhat better chance of rain along the east coast.

The cold front will continue to move down the sunshine state on
Saturday and through South Florida Saturday night. This will allow
for the steering flow to become more southwest over the area on
Saturday leading to a low end chance of showers and thunderstorms
over the East Coast Metro areas with rest of South Florida seeing
a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Hopefully we are not too far away from the start of the Florida Rainy Season. We so desperately need the rain here where I am in South Florida. Hasn't been interesting in terms of weather in what seems like forever!

The Euro looks pretty bullish for some seabreeze driven thunderstorm activity next week but early season convective activity frequently favors interior locations.

Well, I sure hope that the rainy season kicks in real soon. We are getting dry here across Northeast Florida. I have had only one day of measurable rain in the last 15 days. Only 2/3 of an inch has been measured this month at my home. Not good.

Hopefully will see a return of moisture and see our typical seabreeze generated thunderstorms across the peninsula later this week.

Meanwhile just 2 weeks left before the start of the 2016 North Atlantic Hurricane Season!

GFS is also advertising a start to the rainy season next week, at least temporarily.
Just like a switch turned on after such a cool weekend last week this weekend feels like summer.
Went to the beach in Daytina yesterday, it surprised me that the surf temp is already close to 80 degs, which is unusual for this area for the temp to get to that point so early.

Yeah, sea surface temps are approaching 80 degrees off the Northeast Florida coast. I hope that is not an ominous sign NDG with regards to the hurricane season. I am still anticipating more closer to home development this season. Those warm ssts really concern me though.

Yes the rainy season does look to be upon us. Looks like it may officially start tomorrow, May 17th but NWS Miami will declare it later once looking at the data. One criteria is that dew points stay above 70F for an extended period of time which looks like they will. Should it officially start tomorrow, it will be slightly ahead of the median May 21st start date.

Big storms heading towards the FL from the GOM, looks like a fairly healthy MCS with storms forming ahead of it already across the Peninsula.
I was surprised I got rain yesterday, usually in the past years the models over do it with convection the first few days of the rainy season, but this year is different, the atmosphere is loaded & unstable.

As you can see, the Florida Panhandle is getting nothing so far. We have not had any rain in a month.
