Nice cluster of storms has developed across west TX. Hoping some beneficial rainfall can reach as far north as the Hill Country later this afternoon.

The HRRR model continues to be hit or miss even with real-time observation. Wild fluctuations in certain regions regarding rainfall output run to run. I can tell folks already it's wildly off SW of SA right now when you look at the 21z run compared to real-time radar/rainfall estimates.

That’s one nasty storm near Dilley right now.

I have a question for whoever can answer. Often times when I look at the radar over in Mexico, I see storms with deep purples or blacks on the radar and rarely ever see that anywhere in Texas. What makes it possible for storms to get that intense in Mexico and why don’t they get that intense here? Been wondering that for years. It’s like when they cross over the Rio Grande River they weaken.

In that area of Mexico, they have higher terrain with moutain ranges (Sierra Del Burro as one example) and so those can sometimes provide extra lift (rising air) for supercell development/intensity but more times than not they don't maintain that intensity as they move into Texas and lose the benefit of that extra lift.

That's not always the case however as Del Rio and Eagle Pass for example have seen there share of big hailstorms in the past depending on the atmospheric setup across that region.

Thanks. Dilley is getting plastered with hail right now, geez. Looks like one of those storms I was just talking about that happens in Mexico.

I think me and South Texas Storms are going to have to start a fund to sample the air above San Antonio because we've had storms miss us (that hapoens) but now we've got storms (Tuesday) and rain today weakening as soon as they hit city limits. It would be laughable if it wasn't so serious with the drought ongoing.

We have a few weeks left to salvage what's been a disappointing rainfall stat locally so far before the summer heat high pattern takes over. Obviously you don't rule out some type of tropical system then, but definitely some bad breaks all around for the metro so far at a time when we typically get our most rainfall.

Yep it's just a cruel joke now that really won't end. Much of the state has had at least 1 good rain event so far this month while SA has missed out on several opportunities. Very frustrating. Sure feels like SA has been in exceptional drought now for years.

We actually got a pretty good rain last night ~5 miles W of IAH with little or no thunder as I slept through it.

Above normal heights next week, in 2 weeks we're E of the ridge per Euro/GFS ensembles. It is almost NW flow/noctural storms season in SETX. They happened in Austin as well when I was in school.

The heat is on next week as others have mentioned. NWS in Austin/San Antonio saying we could approach record breaking territory. Yuck.

Hopefully we see the pattern flip again beyond next week with some rain opportunities before we head into June.

Looks like some pop up storms are trying to form. At least here in Irving/Coppell.
