Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
221 PM CDT Thu Oct 31 2019
.SHORT TERM (Tonight through Friday Night)...
It is a cool and pleasant afternoon with only some high clouds
overhead. North winds are slowly weakening with an occasional gust,
and should continue on this pattern this evening. For trick or
treaters this evening, expect temperatures to be in the upper 40s to
low 50s and a light breeze. Overnight tonight, we should see even
colder temperatures, as clear skies, dry air, and light wind set us
up for effective radiational cooling. Many will see temperatures drop
below freezing again, and some additional counties have been added to
the Freeze Warning in effect tonight from 1 AM to 10 AM. This area
includes counties along and east of I-10 and a portion of the I-35
corridor north of Bexar. Tomorrow, winds shift back out of the south
and temperatures start to warm slightly. Highs will be in the low to
mid 60s, still 10 - 15 degrees cooler than the seasonal normal.
Friday night will still be chilly, but the area should stay above
freezing with the return of some moisture and clouds.
&&
.LONG TERM (Saturday through Thursday)...
Early Saturday morning, a dry front glides across the area. This will
briefly shift the winds and interrupt the moisture return. This will
slow down the warm up for Saturday, and keep temperatures similar to
Friday. Sunday through the beginning of the week we will see a
warming trend, and by Tuesday, temperatures climb back into the upper
70s and low 80s. By mid week and towards the end of the forecast
period, models are picking up multiple disturbances that will
increase our chances for rain from Wednesday through Friday.

Tonight might actually be warmer than last night. No cold air advection and many sites have switched to southerly component.

I saw it on facebook, seems like the easy way out to me... I mean... way to go out on a limb given recent history.

Got down to 27.3 IMBY. A hard freeze on November 1. Wow. Frost on ground.
The SE wind we had last evening became just E and now NE.

Tied a record low set for November 1st @ DFW 31F
Hotober closed out with a bang, with the monthly mean temp dropping to -2.0 and precip was +.20, thats a major turnaround from the +14 we started out with.
Halloween 2019 is officially the coldest on record by 4 degrees. The old average was 46F, the new average is 41F

Brent, the gfs shows a major winter storm just to our north, but its most likely hyping the cold and precipitation. Fun to look at. Alot of people said November would be colder but December would be warmer. I am trying to remain cautiously optimistic about winter.
