Re: Florida Weather
FWIW WPC back on board with some decent QPF over the peninsula...heaviest south. This will likely be one of those cases where the best chance for heavy rain/sassy storms increases as one goes south. Let's hope for some rain since excessive warmth/dry conditions are highly likely afterwards as the pesky southeast ridge really asserts itself. the 8-14 day shows torch city with max warm anomalies centered right....well you know where...as does the 6-10 day. With sea temps running well above normal (at least around here) Summer is going to get started early unless we can get some spring cold fronts.

Re: Florida Weather
Weather in SFL is odd this morning. The sky is a mottled gray, and the air is fairly still. It kinda feels like it's April, and a mesoscale convective complex from the Gulf is incoming.
Hope we get some decent rain out of this.

Re: Florida Weather
looking at NWS MIami radar, certainly seems the region should get a good soaking out of this system.

Re: Florida Weather
we've broken out into sun here on the west coast and the resultant mixing is yielding wind gusts into the 30's. heavy beneficial rain is sitting just offshore and not making much progress so far toward us. the eastern side of the peninsula has done much better so far with the rain. perhaps the sun will bump instability and eventually allow us to cash in.

Re: Florida Weather
Looks like most of the rain is done by me but it was a good soaker. My lawn needed it.

Hope this is not what the summer brings, that would probably be a tropical system if something similar happened during the summer and might have been something subtropical if it happened in April. Its about to drop more rain soon in my area from the south

Re: Florida Weather
Well , since we never had winter to show up this season, at least we have this interesting broad Low Pressure system still spinning near Tampa Bay this evening. Some locales have received nearly 2 inches of rainfall through 8 p.m. this evening. I have measured just over an inch at my home station. The Low is expected to move across North-Central Florida the next 12 hours or so , then move northeast into the Atlantic in the vicinity of just north of the Bahamas. We will get more rain later tonight rotating northwest into NE Florida with the counter-clockwise spin with the Low. Rain will end by midday tomorrow here in Jax area., and the rest of the East Coast of the peninsula as the Low pulls offshore in the Atlantic.

Re: Florida Weather
I only got about 1/4" from our system...but isolated spots around here got 1-2" so very beneficial. the remainder of Feb and beginning of March look very warm for us.

Re: Florida Weather
Long-range GFS says not so fast with the Eastern half of the country and Florida escaping this winter unscathed...let's see how many runs until the GFS flips to an entirely different solution.

Re: Florida Weather
Nobody believes the long range GFS...even if it were true winter for florida is done based on where we are now on the calendar. Having said that...I am hoping for some late season chill...it's nice and it helps keep the coastal waters cool which then delays the onslaught of Summer by a bit for those near the coast.

If I had a dollar for every time the long range GFS screwed up I'd be rich!

Re: Florida Weather
It's worth noting that the warm anomalies on the 8-14 day are backing off with some average to below average temps appearing in the northern tier so hopefully we can get some normal to perhaps below normal (probably wishful thinking) temps by mid month. By then the date of last freeze is in the rearview mirror for the peninsula so the best we can hope for is some cooler weather which is all I want anyway. we'll see...i'm certainly not biting on the long range GFS...unless it shows warmth...in that case it's probably right. I cannot remember a 2 year stretch that was so consistently above normal...ever..

Re: Florida Weather
NHC/WPC is classifying the system as a 1001mb Gale center about 75 nautical miles due east of Cape Canaveral. Gale force winds are occuring just east of the Low Pressure area. It is a large system indeed and it bought us some much needed rain these past couple of days before it finally got just offshore earlier this afternoon.

Re: Florida Weather
Like a said a couple of days ago winter is done for the FL Peninsula, which never happened to begin with, the tomato plants that I planted in early Fall are still alive and kicking, lol.

Re: Florida Weather
the 8-14 day shows some blue over north florida for the first time in many weeks with normal temps over central florida reflecting a steady tilt toward cooler temps (relative to normals which are quickly increasing now). Nevertheless this would imply some really nice weather as March norms over central florida feature highs in the mid to upper 70's and lows in the mid to upper 50's.
