You bring up a valid point. Imagine if you'd spent big bucks for a Spring break vacation that ended up cold and windy...even more brutal is the idea that those who came down in mid Winter (when this sort of weather should have been happening) got 80 degree warmth instead. Yeah those folks are hosed. But for those of us who live here the payoff will be late April/ early May when it's 90 in Lakeland and 78-80 in Clearwater thanks to the chill this cold snap will leave in the shelf waters. I'd prefer it not quite this cool but the eventual compensation will be solid.

Upper 70s to near 80 by Saturday and Sunday, Tuesday night through Friday AM are just the only days which will not be beach weather, but I wouldn't be surprised if you find some snow birds even with temps in the 50s/60s during the day at the beach, compared to up north that it is still spring temps for them :)

The latest forecast minimum temperature projection for Thursday morning at the NWS Jax office is 27 degrees, which would definitely set a record low temperature record for March 16, should that forecast verify. Some areas in the interior, especially the Suwanee River Valley, and near the I-75 corridor around Lake City, will get very close to Hard Freeze criteria. Also, could see freezing temps even to Jax Beach Thursday morning. Well, to say the least, as we have discussed at length earlier, this cold spell will be very impressive. Old Man Winter came late to the party this season, but he apparently will bring a healthy dose of cold air here in mid-March. Better late than never I guess. This will turn out here being just about as cold as it was during that 2 day cold snap which occurred back in early January, when it is all said and done. It did get down to 25 degrees at my home back on January 8, the coldest of the season to this juncture.

The very latest projected NWS minimum temperature forecast for Thursday morning for North and Central Florida, which was just posted by the NWS offices in Jax, Tallahassee, Tampa and Melbourne at 5 a.m.

I see NWS offices across Florida lowering their lows each forecast package by a little as this event nears with low 40s all the way to coast west-Central Florida. This is a whopper of a front which the GFS nailed as far as cold Florida temps way out in advance. So kudos to the GFS.

+PNA, cyclogenesis in the mid Atlantic coast, can't say cold front was hard to see. +NAO will warm it up though after but still.

NWS Tampa has dropped temps even further. I see 37F-39F point forecasts for interior areas of Palm Harbor now with 40F-42F right along the coast. Imagine if it were Jan-Feb? Might be pushing freezing for parts of the Tampa area.

:uarrow: Holy cow you're right. now instead of 43 it's 38! This is a good reminder that a multi year good luck streak (wrt freezes/cold) does not imply a permanent change. a month earlier and we'd be dealing with a freeze...go back 2 months and we'd really be in trouble. The cool air feels great and the 6-10 day and 8-14 day show us returning to what we've long been accustomed...above normal temps and below normal precip. The fire season this spring could be a doozy.

Yes, kudos to the GFS. It finally got one right.

The Euro played catch up to the GFS during the past few days.

Currently only 47.3 degrees despte bright and full March sunshine at this lunch hour. Impressive cold air advection this hour despite the higher sun angle. Temps will struggle to reah the mid 50s this afternoon at best. The stage is perfectly set tonight and tomorrow morning for record low temps for much of my area and interior areas of North Florida. Temps are forecast to drop into the mid to upper 20s in these areas. This will be just as cold as the brief cold spell experienced in this past early January. Hard freeze expected and freeze out to the beaches in Northeast Florida.

If the latest afternoon NWS: Miami forecast package is correct for my locale this could be one of the coldest nights if not the coldest night of the Cold Front Season/Winter! Impressive for it already being mid-March.

Upper 50's despite full sun was the best we could do here. NWS overnight low for my neighborhood is 40

So far, it has bottomed out at 28.4 degrees as of 6:32 a.m. Currently at 29.3 degrees. Temp may drop another degree or do in the next hour.

Record low established at the NWS office for this morning. I checked there and 29 is the low so far this morning.

As is often the case it did not get as cold as forecast last night in the metro but it was very chilly with KTPA bottoming out at 42 and KPIE 45. 6-10, 8-14 day and April outlooks are for above normal temps...so here we go.

Good thing this Cold Snap hit now versus 2-3 months ago otherwise central FL would had seen freezing temps, higher sun angle and longer daylight helped modify this airmass, IMO.
My area dropped into the upper 30s this morning but not a drop of frost because of dew points well down into the 20s.

I had measured a morning low of 28 degrees, as did the NWS Jax office earlier today. Record low temperatures were set at the NWS Jax office for today's date. Record low was set at Gainesville as well. Gainesville had 25 degrees, which was the coldest in the region. Also, this is only the fifth freeze of the season in this region, the first one since January 8. It looks like we may be able to squeeze out one more freeze in the morning before we warm up.

Looks like we will see a lot of frost tomorrow morning as very good radiational cooling is taking place now that the Polar HP axis has moved over the area. Low should bottom out near 30 degrees interior North Florida, although upper 20s I think will be a good bet in areas like Gainesville and Lake City, and even Cecil Commerce on Jacksonville's westside area.

Well, after having consecutive freezes here the past couple of mornings, and heavy frost here yesterday, moderation truly begins today. We will have beautiful weather the next few days, with temps approaching 80 degrees by Tuesday in the region. There will be a cold front passing through North Florida tomorrow morning, but will only briefly drop temps to average levels (max temps near 70, min temps upper 40s) for Sunday as cooler, northeast winds will blow in tomorrow.

Moderate drought/abnormally dry conditions are expanding their grip on the peninsula. With dry/warm conditions returning I have a feeling increasing drought and wildfire concerns will become the dominant theme for the peninsula until the rainy season establishes itself.

Was out of town and missed much of the cool weather.....oh well. At least it looks to be "pleasant" around here for much of the week.
