"Withered"?! It hit The Dome and... POOF! Destroyed! Looks like the Dome wins again as I got only a few sprinkles. Heading out to unwind the hoses...

My sister went into Market Basket at Eastex Frwy and Hwy. 105 in Beaumont a li ttle bit ago. It had just started pouring when she went in, she was in there for about 5 minutes and when she came out, the street was flooded. Sideways rain and even with an umbrella, she's at work soaking wet. I've been inside the whole time. :P

I received a total of 0.62" of rainfall here this morning. However, now the rain has cleared and it is just a breezy, cloudy and cool (68F right now) day.

That's a Massive blob offshore... had it been 50-60 miles inland we would be facing a disaster. Let's be happy we missed out on this one.

The blob offshore is generally moderate to heavy. The highest amount per hour is about 2 inches.

Weatherbug in Bridge City showed temp was down to 52 degrees earlier this afternoon (around 2pm) with a windchill of 48 -- that wind was howling, and the rain pelting. I had to put on my jacket!

Check out the latest forecast for my area:

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. North wind between 10 and 15 mph.

Thursday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 68. Northeast wind between 10 and 15 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 49. East wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. North wind around 10 mph.

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. North wind around 10 mph.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61.

Saturday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39.

Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Monday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 72.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 77.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73.

39-degrees with storms on Saturday night!?!? Brr! That is very cold for April and especially when mixed with precipipitation. I wonder if this means that those storms expected on Sat/Sat night will have an increased and possibly widespread hail risk? Could there even be a chance of winter-type precip. (sleet) in northern areas? If so..how crazy would that be!? I will be watching this one closely for sure! Seems like if nothing else, winter is certainly making a rare late-season comeback! I was not expecting to see lows in the 30s again until fall..

The NWS forecast gets more and more interesting each time I look at it! Check it out now! 54-degrees for a high? 37-degrees for a low? That is almost unheard of in April...

Saturday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 54. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Also, 37 + precipitation could get interesting. I am not suggesting that we see any wintry precip (since that has never really happened in Houston in April), but I am getting more and more worried about the threat of hail from some of those storms.

This is from Jeff this morning. Talk about interesting! Another possible Easter weekend event for N. TX?!?!?!

Here is the update:

Winter Weather Event to impact the state this weekend.

Chance for winter precip. across parts of W and N TX.

Discussion:

Incredible pattern developing with strong amplification and very cold air for April. The end result will be a cold and wet weekend similar to January instead of early April. Strong cold front will arrive into N TX Friday and push through SE TX on Saturday with strong cold air advection as arctic surface high builds down the plains. Highs will only reach the mid 40’s!!! in N TX on Saturday and only the mid 50’s across SE TX which is about 30 degrees below early April normals. Upper level short wave will ride down the NW flow aloft providing copious cloud cover and moisture over the cold air dome producing periods of rainfall. Upper level low will be the main player as it ejects out of the SW US and into TX late Saturday and Sunday.

Upper feature will spawn surface low reflection along the coast with strong upglide over the cold air at the surface. Widespread rain and thunderstorms will develop and continue into Sunday morning. Forecast soundings over NW and N TX support precip. turning to snow or a rain/snow mix possibly into the metro area of Dallas. Locally it will remain a cold rain with a few thunderstorms. A very impressive weather event, but not a record as it has snowed twice before in N TX in early April.

May need to keep a very close watch on Monday morning as skies clear. Could see lows dip well into the 30’s and some frost across the N and W areas.

Recap:

Wet, cloudy , and cold through the weekend with lows in the 40’s and highs in the 50’s with 60-70% chance of rain Saturday night into Sunday.

I will be sure and take photos. We will be leaving to Dallas Friday morning and head back home to Houston Monday. It snowed in Fort Worth last Easter.

Whoa! I left the window open last night and woke up with a frozen nose and sandwiched between the 2 dogs. This return to winter BITES! The only good thing about it is that a cold, rainy Saturday night will keep me inside watching the entire run of The Ten Commandments with perhaps a bit of the sacramental wine. :-)

I was in my car in Beaumont about the same time and it showed 53° - I didn't believe it until I got out. It was pretty windy too... felt a little weird for April and compared to the warmer weather lately.

Sorry Frick... it's not like I asked for it. :P
