Crazy what is happening, this was a Slight Risk day and there was no apparent heightened level for tornadic activity and there was 6 TOR warnings at once (outbreak mode). Now some monster hail in one cell and a large tornado that hit Mineral Wells. Is the Wells supercell the one with the well defined hook?

Extensive damage being reported in Mineral Wells by several news sources. I have a bad feeling about this. May have been two tornadoes on the ground at the same time.

My experience is that when words like extensive is used in the immediate aftermath of a storm, it's usually a really bad tornado strike.

Mineral Wells wasn't even in a slight risk for most of the day. I said a few pages ago that it seems like the days they aren't predicting much are the worse.

Look at the latest sounding from FWD, It's no wonder there large tornadoes are occurring, if the sounding had been forecasted for today we probably would have gotten an enhanced risk at least. Good thing no storms are moving through the Metro right now.

Certainly looks like extensive damage in Mineral Wells, but so far, I haven't seen any photos on Twitter that are in the "catastrophic" range mentioned in a tweet above.

The pictures I've seen appear EF0 mostly thus far maybe EF1. For some reason this year first reaction from chasers seems to be a little over the top with some of these tornadoes. I've heard "large" tornado dubbed so many times this season, that should be reserved for the real wedges. I think the high precipitation nature (rain) that's been so prevalent just makes them appear that way to chasers at first. Rain shafts can sometimes "look" like a large tornado.

Went back and looked at the "catastrophic" damage tweet. WFAA tweeted that, that catastrophic damage was reported.

When I hear that, images of Moore, Tuscaloosa and Joplin come to mind.

Not images from the damage I've seen so far.

:uarrow: someone on another forum was saying a while ago how almost every tornado warning with a confirmed tornado became a PDS Warning this year but apparently in the past they were reserved for truly deadly tornadoes where significant damage was already evident.
