Re: Florida Weather
Amazing how sharp the gradient for this front is - temperatures barely got below 60F last night here in Tampa.

Re: Florida Weather
Here in Boca Raton we can not get cool air if it was spilled on us ,again we are tropical not subtropical down here. I'm frustrated with not getting real cold fronts and just ones that die out on top of us with a NE wind. I saw the NAO going negative but that changes daily.

Lows in the lower 60s here this weekend with NNW windflow, that is going to feel wonderful

Yesterday afternoon, a switch somewhere was flipped, and it has been quite rainy/squally for November.

Re: Florida Weather
we've got quite a stretch of cool weather in store...with only a slow moderation back to normal over time. Sunday looks like legit football weather for the Bucs with upper 60's highs under bright full sun...a solid 10 degrees below normal.

We can thank the rather active Southern Stream Jet bringing potent shortwave disturbances now into first of next week. This current shortwave is developing a Low Pressure area this evening in the Eastern ĢOM and will move across North Florida now through tomorrow morning and then.move off the NE Florida coast by mid-morning and be off the SC coast by Saturday morning.
Heavy rainfall ecpected with some spots across North Florida picking up 2-3 inches of rainfall overnight into Friday.
The Low Pressure area will intensify on Saturday as the upper trough axis pivots across South Georgia Friday evening into early Saturday. GFS intensifies the Low to 992 mb offshore of Wilmington, NC by Sunday morning.
This Low Pressure system on its backside will bring a solid north to northwesterly flow of continental dry and cooler air across the peninsula, not only this weekend, but into early next week. It will actually FINALLY feel like Autumn statewide, even for you all down in South Florida! Here in Jax, the lows will mainly be in the 40s and max temps near 60 to the lower 60s through Sunday.
The GFS also wants to develop another Low Pressure system off the Florida East Coast Tuesday with another Southern Stream shortwave which could bring another round of rain Tuesday. The 18Z GFS late today has seemingly backed off this potential. Will monitor that closely.
Enjoy the cool weather everyone!!!

Re: Florida Weather
What a impressive rain event for North and Northeast Florida throughout the overnight and still ongoing currently. Here now approaching 6:a.m. and the total rainfall in the ole gauge here at my home station is showing just over 3 inches. It looks like widespread 2-3 inch totals are common across the region currently. Raw, wet day in store, continuing throughout today. Max temp will only be only near 60 today here with the onshore flow maintaining across this area and the Low Pressure area passing just to our south early this morning, and then just offshore of Jax by 10 a.m. this morning.
This is a very impressive Shortwave passing through the region this morning and the developing area of Low Pressure over our ares will move off shore of Jax by 10 a.m. this morning. It then will be off the GA/SC coast by 00Z tonight. North winds will increase significantly by this evening as the Low Pressure area intensifies with the approach of the upper trough axis, which will pivot across Eastern and Southeast GA overnight and into early Saturday. This will also keep clouds and light rain across NE FL and Southeast GA into Saturday morning. Clearing skies will come with the passage of the upper trough axis during tomorrow morning from west to east across the area.
WIndy and cool weather in store for most of this weekend for the peninsula as the Low Pressure system moves off away from the coast.

Re: Florida Weather
Looks like folks down here in S.FL may finally be able to give their A/C's a MUCH NEEDED break after the prolong hot and late summer this year starting tomorrow.

Re: Florida Weather
Models did pretty well with the shortwave and cooler temps for Florida advertising this really all the way back to early this week. NNW windflow will really minimize any warming influence from the Gulf Stream here is SE Florida.

Re: Florida Weather
Rain has stopped for now as the Low Pressure area (1013 mb) currently is just off shore of Mayport, moving slowly NNE. The heaviest rain is now off the coast. Total rainfall at my home station is just under 3.5 inches. Definitely a very impressive total. Some spots over around the Suwannee River Valley received between 4-5 inches overnight and earlier today.
More rain will pivot across the area later today as the upper level trough axis pivots across North Florida and South Georgia beginning late this afternoon through into Saturday morning. Generally about 1/2 to 1 inch rain amounts are possible with this upper trough axis passage this evening into early Saturday. Overcast conditions and cool, northerly wind flow today on the backside of the developing Low Pressure system will keep temps steady in the lower 50s the rest of the day here. Currently 51.4 F here at my home as I head off for the office.

They did indeed, Both GFS and EURO handled this shortwave feature quite well over the course of the past week.

Re: Florida Weather
Looks like a chilly pattern for Florida on the 18Z GFS through most of the run with some breaks in between. I get the feeling this year can bring some real cold down the peninsula once we are into winter.

Re: Florida Weather
Low Pressure area near 32.5 N 78 W, 1001 mb currently and deepening as a very strong Upper Level Low moving just south of due east, is traversing across Southeast Georgia, just northwest of the Jax metro area. This will further intensify the Low Pressure area as thye upper Low catches up to it through the rest of today and into the next couple of days as it moves ENE farther away from the Southeast U.S. Coast tonight into Sunday.
Brisk NNW wind flow will be occurring from now right on through the next couple of days, bringing Autumn finally to the entire Florida Peninsula
The wrap around moisture with the Upper Low in my vicinity will keep clouds and even a few light rain showers over parts of Northeast Florida this afternoon. The upper trough axis will finally pivot through Northeast Florida late tonight, and clearing skies will take place once this happens. Overcast conditions across all the Northeast Florida region, and low level stratocumulus clouds have moved across from the GOM into the Florida Gulf Coast region as well with the NW flow.
Temperature currently here at my home station is only 51 degrees and it will be holding steady in the lower 50s the rest of the day. Temps at this hour are only in the upper 50s to low 60s down along the Florida Gulf Coast from Crystal River south to Saint Petersburg, and mainly the low to mid 60s across Central Florida. South Florida readings are only in the upper 60s to lower 70s most locales. Fabulous Autumn weather for a change across the entire peninsula!! Enjoy it everyone!! Sunny and cool, breezy weather tomorrow!!

Re: Florida Weather
This cloud cover over Florida looks stubborn to burn off as I loop satellite imagery this morning. I am actually in the Orlando area this weekend and it certainly feels chilly and winter-like in Central Florida not to mention it looks gloomy. But it certainly puts us in the “holiday” spirit. NWS Melbourne did mention in the latest discussion models may have a bias in clearing the cloud cover. I do think we will finally see some sun breaking through the clouds here in Orlando this afternoon but a high of 66F could be at risk if this cloud cover persists.
The other thing is the NNW wind flow has pushed the cool and gloomy weather all the way down the peninsula and through far south Southern Florida where that region saw 50s for the first time in a long time so really not much warmer than Central Florida.
