Yeah, it's probably done for South Florida in terms of any noteworthy cold. I know that it can happen in theory up until around Valentines Day, and about once every 100 years it can happen in early March (the famous Superstorm), but most years we're really looking at mid-December to mid-January as the big cold season.

I actually like the little transient cool shots we've been getting, I just wish it didn't rebound to hot-and-sticky as quickly as it has been. The speed of the rebound to warmth after frontal passages over the past decade has been very quick.....it seems to me that I feel "uncomfortably warm" in December-February much more than I used to. There's more than enough time for that from March-November.

Good 'ole GFS fooled many people again
The +NAO, +AO and no +PNA regime continues, all the forecasts back in December based on analog years have been a big bust, JB is speechless.

The one day last week 01/22 was really the only day we were cold in South Florida. The forecasts were a big time bust and I cancelled winter back on Jan 3rd lol. We might have a few more 50s for lows but that is it for this pathetic winter. I went to New York last week and they were pushing 50 degrees up there and yes it was cold to me but everyone was saying that it was very mild and no snow to speak of in the tri State area.

Warm front later today, PWATs of 2 inches, slight risk of severe thunderstorms in South Florida per SPC. If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was the middle of March.

Lightning data shows a good line out in the gulf....looks good later on for Collier/Broward and points southward. We have really been shafted on winter convection this year. Hopefully this represents the beginning of a change.

Agreed reminds me a bit of the big Dec 23 event here which dumped 12+ inches of rain in parts of metro South Florida and flooded Ft Lauderdale airport.

The 96 hour Euro captures what much of this winter has featured with the pesky Caribbean ridge and trough out west:

Forget cold, Feb and March is prime time for mid latitude driven svrwx in Florida. Next week looks active across the deep south including north Florida. A nice pollen rinsing squall line is on my weather wish list.

Our loyal friend the southeast ridge may exert enough influence over us by mid month to necessitate a torch watch. stay tuned. We've been here before.

If we repeat past years, it'll be warm through Feb, then have 3-5 days of coolness in mid March then the thermometer line starts the long climb.

This has been the same ole theme every year the past decade. This is just the pattern now every meteorological winter season now. The Southeast U.S. ridge is a ever present fixture for our region every winter. It is just a plain fact, as there is nothing else to say.

BTW.. Only 2 measured days of freezing temps this season, Dec 3, 2019 and January 22. Prior to 2011, we were averaging 10-15 freezes a winter season. We are barely getting 2 to 3 days of freezing a winter season now. The streak of temperatures not measured below 30 degrees here at my locale continues, as that has not happened here since January 5, 2018, now over 2 years. Incredible how global warming has changed the climate averages the past decade that is for sure!!

We're finally in the hunt for a decent winter squall line. The latest SPC outlook includes portions of central florida now...which is a change from earlier expectations...with that zone running west and north of a line from about Daytona beach to Charlotte Harbor.. Long term..Torch watch. Happy Spring everyone

The latest 6-10 day has maxed out warm anoms over Florida and the 8-14 day is one step below maxed out. Such exceptional depictions are highly correlated with record or near record highs. Another great torch is upon us. Meanwhile the intermountain west will be well below normal.
