Thanksgiving looks on the warm side but looks like quite a front next week which would be some of the coldest temps in some time for Florida :cold:

Calling all firepits, hoodies, jackets and slow cookers out of hibernation and into standby mode. all hands on deck soon to ward off chill and put a snap in your step. it is coming, it looks to hang around for awhile and it will be glorious!

Highs don’t even make it out the 50s for Central Florida and points north on the latest GFS which is much below normal. With a more WNW to NW wind flow, temps will be a bit cooler over the eastern side of the state :cold:

NWS Tampa with a little humor

So, you may hear "cold front" and assume we`ll get cold weather next
week right? Well that assumption would finally be correct. Much
colder and much drier air will move into the Southeast. It`s very
possible that much of the forecast area will remain in the 60s on
Tuesday with a chance of upper 50s (lows in the upper 30s Wednesday)
across the Nature Coast. Latest MEX guidance came in even colder on
Wednesday... Whatever the exact numbers are, December looks to start
out with jeans/jackets instead of a bathing suit

NOPE hahaha :D

Boy, it sure looked to me at the time as if we'd be looking at a purely double-dip trough in the E. CONUS with a deep cut-off low providing a nice cool down but entirely devoid of really cold advection that would be capped to the Northeast. Models didn't budge and here we are looking at a protracted period of really cold advection pouring into the state this Monday. Definitely not looking like your mother's LaNina of yester-year. If long range models hold true, it'll remain on the cool side for a good deal of the first two weeks of December. For a Florida Winter that may well be on the very mild side, enjoy the cold while we get it. I know I sure will!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FLORIDA PEEPS! Stay safe, eat and drink often

Check this out. The CMC is calling for sub 20F temperatures next week in the Panhandle. Surely overdone, but wow.

All the models are trending colder. GFS has low to mid 60s well into central Florida next week.

The 60 degree high in my nws forecast for Tuesday is 10 degrees below our coldest average high of 70 in January. It's impressive and will be a shock to the system after such a long stretch of warm weather. Needless to say that's a bit cold for my preference. Fortunately we V notch right up into a more sane temp regime. I know we have lots of cool weather fans. You're about to jackpot. Enjoy.

“V” shaped recovery may be short-lived with the models showing another potent front for next weekend / early week of Dec 6th.

59 for a high on Tuesday in my NWS forecast. 40 for a low. holy smokes. Mid 70's back by Thursday. It is a massive V notch chill. even if more is in the pipeline it's a transient quick hit. Looking beyond that...we are projected to remain on the cool side of normal but we have a dearth of truly arctic air up north...so the max misery wrt to cold is stoutly capped. Nevertheless, what a wild change after such a long hot summer.

With a positive NAO I’m surprised we are getting this coming cold front but our winter will mostly be weak cold fronts with winds quickly going NE after frontal passage for most part.

Is the massive +PNA that will help the strong cold front sweep through the Peninsula.
But because of the +NAO it will be a quick two day cold event, highs back to the 70s on Thursday across the Peninsula.

We're going to remain on the cool side of normal for awhile (3-4 week outlook is back on the warm side of the tracks) but subsequent fronts after this initial brief but intense blast will be modest. there's no deep cold up north yet. We can't get cold if it's 40 in Detroit. We can run a touch below normal...which is what is most likely over the next 2 weeks or so..

Lonny, the link you attached does not reference the NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) which is in a positive phase right now. The link you are referencing is for the AO - Arctic Oscillation. You are correct in stating that the Arctic Oscillation is presently negative however the two are entirely separate. As with the PNA as well... all global oscillations are broadly connected but just wanted to point out that NAO and AO are two different sets of measured atmospheric circulations.

The link is the CPC home page. For AO/NAO/PNA and more. Just goto link for NAO on left. Trending negative
