Re: Florida Weather Thread-Weak Cold Front
Heat continued over Florida today, but no records were set (for heat anyway)... the hottest temp that I saw was 94F set in a number of places, including at Ft Myers, Melbourne, Orlando, Safford and Cape Canaveral.
The scattered thunderstorms around the area produced: 2.34 inches at Apalachicola, a new May 23 record, Stuart 1.46", Vero Beach 1.08", West Kendall 0.82", Winter Haven 0.78", Boynton Beach 0.66", Orlando 2.22" (new record), Pensacola 0.48".
Meanwhile, Key West had a steamy low of 82F, and has recorded just a trace of rainfall all month... in fact the last measurable rainfall at this site was on April 8, 44 long days ago.... the 4th longest such dry streak since records began back in 1871.
The 82F was a record high minimum temperature, the warmest evening all month, and is a new May record as well.

Looks like mostly a summer-sea breeze storms tomorrow mostly from the spine of FL east until what ever is left of the cold front comes through.
Id give anywhere west of 75 north of Punta Gorda a 10% chance.
Between US 17 and 75 a 30%, north of Orlando 40%.
East of 17, south of 4 a 50-60% chance.

All of SFL and a good portion of CFL are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. Can someone please fill me in on what is going to be happening today?

Excerpt from the SPC..
DISCUSSION...PWAT VALUES OF 1.75-2 INCHES COMBINED WITH STEEP
MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL CONTRIBUTE TO STRONG INSTABILITY THIS
AFTN ACROSS CNTRL AND SRN FL. SEABREEZE ACTIVITY EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP EARLY THIS AFTN AND GROW UPSCALE AS A MID-LEVEL IMPULSE DIGS
SEWD ACROSS THE PENINSULA. ACTIVITY WILL PROGRESS SEWD OFFSHORE
LATER THIS EVENING.

Re: Florida Weather Thread-SVR Watch ECFL/SFL
Not much here in Western Polk County, most of the storms have formed well east of me so far.

Re:
It is possible we may see another round this evening, then it should quiet down....storm that just went through here wasn't severe...lots of thunder and a brief downpour...sun is out again...let's see what (if anything) develops later....
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
350 PM EDT SAT MAY 24 2008
...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF MAINLAND SOUTH FL
UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
...DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL POSSIBLE...
.DISCUSSION...CONVECTION CONTINUES TO DEVELOP WITH SOME STORMS
BECOMING SEVERE OVER INTERIOR/EAST SECTIONS. GULF SEA BREEZE HAS
ADVANCED WELL INLAND AND ATLANTIC SEA BREEZE IS PUSHING
INLAND...ESPECIALLY OVER BROWARD/MIAMI-DADE...AND NOW WE ARE
GETTING STORM OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES. SO IT WILL CONTINUE TO BE A VERY
ACTIVE AFTERNOON WITH SEVERE WX THREAT ESPECIALLY ATLANTIC COAST.
SEVERE RISK LOOKS TO CONTINUE INLAND FROM THE GULF...BUT WILL NEED
TO KEEP THE WESTERN COUNTIES IN THE WATCH AT LEAST OVER THE NEXT
HOUR OR SO...AS STORM OUTFLOW BOUNDARIES COULD ALLOW FOR
ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT INLAND FROM THE GULF COAST. NAM-WRF SHOWS
CONVECTION BECOMING CONCENTRATED ACROSS PALM BEACH COUNTY AND THEN
CONVECTION DIVING SOUTH OUT FROM CENTRAL FLORIDA AND RACING
SOUTHEAST ALONG THE EAST COAST EARLY THIS EVENING...SO WILL NEED
TO WATCH OUT FOR THIS POSSIBLE SCENARIO. THINGS WILL DECREASE
OVERNIGHT...BUT CANNOT RULE OUT ISOLATED STORMS ALONG THE ATLANTIC
COAST AS NEXT SHORTWAVE MOVES SOUTHWARD. SCATTERED STORMS ARE
POSSIBLE OVER THE ATLANTIC WATERS OVERNIGHT.
