Flash flood emergency in Houston. Major street flooding currently ongoing. Over 8 inches of rain in parts of the city, including downtown where I am. Cars are stranded nearby and streets have turned into rivers.

This is very very bad. The line has stalled on its easterly movement and the storms are now training Northeastward. Here in Sugar Land, ive been seeing 4in/hr rainfall rates. Just got an inch in 30 minutes, only know that since the guage reset. Add about 2.6 inches to that for me. Flooding isnt my concern here, we can take alot of rain. Houston cannot. Setting up for an ugly morning in Htown.

My power flashed soon after midnight, was out for about 20 min then it started updating again. I may be off by an inch of run so far tonight. Right now its showing 2.15 in 1 hour and 6 minutes after midnight, i think its actually closer to 3, it was raining very hard but i cant tell if my station stored some of the data at all while the web was knocked out. It jump up some but it didnt seem like it was high enough.

I was without power for about 6 hours and internet a bit longer. Just got internet back. Pretty sure we had a tornado come through Jacksonville this evening on the northside of town. After the storm passed, I heard one of my neighbors talking about damage, so I took my car out and took some photos on my iPhone.
Here's the album of photos I took: http://imgur.com/a/9fOVY
Still have a portions of the city without power. I went to Walmart just a bit ago and bought the utility workers in the parking lot some doughnuts, and there were still a few traffic lights w/o power as well as businesses and residences without it here and there spread throughout the northern half of Jacksonville.

Another large cell tracking 59 right into the city, this storm looks very very strong. Hail possible. Rare for us. Never seen purple on the radar on channel 2

Re: Texas Spring-2015
I emptied 8.39" out of my gauge at 3am when our power came back on. Had some water in the house. Will have to check for moisture in walls when I wake up again. Going to bed for the first time tonight. Major flooding over much of the Houston metro area.

A "silver lining" to the bad stretch of weather we have had.

Jeff had many updates last night but here's the latest:
Overnight rainfall 8-11 inches over Fort Bend and Harris Counties.
Widespread flooding in in progress…even in areas that do not normally flood. Several bayous have exceeded their banks with rainfall rates of 8.3 inches recorded in 3-hr (over 100-yr rate).
Numerous major freeways are closed and many vehicles are stranded in high water on freeways and secondary roads.
Brays Bayou: worst flooding since 1983
Keegans Bayou: record flood crest has occurred….near 500-yr level
Buffalo Bayou: over 7 ft overbanks in Downtown Houston
37 Texas counties have been declared disaster areas and a declaration for Harris County will be sent to the Governor’s office this morning.
Residents should remain at their current location. Do NOT travel at this time until the flood waters recede.

Stay safe guys down in SE Tex! Water damage in homes is not a fun or cheap thing to repair...just unreal flooding across Texas
Quieter day today in terms of widespread flooding. However it is a high cape day so any storm that pops out of the dryline will be nasty as there will be 4000-5000 (J/kg) of cape. That is very high. For example days with such high cape values (4000+ J/kg) relative to our region includes, but not only, El Reno 2013, May 3rd 1999, Jarrell 1997. Luckily we don't have the screaming shear above.

This picture is reported to have been taken at Pedernales River, upstream from Lake Travis before and after yesterday's rains

Lake Travis is rising several feet per day. Water will continue to flow in from swollen creeks and rivers. More rain will come the next few weeks which will help the highland lakes
Call it what you want and the media is hesitant to say it, the Texas multiyear drought is over.

Elsewhere, Lake Texoma is about 643 ft, or a foot below the record in 1990. CPC outlines NW Tx (Red River basin) to get excessive rains next. Needless to say that record will be broken this week.
