I made out OK, better than I thought I would. The Majesty Palms have a little leaf burn on the edges but that's it. Before you know it I'll have the Tiki bar back open :-)

anyone else see the FOX26 forecast tonight? Seems like they are getting a little too hopeful for warm/hot weather. Tonight's forecast called for lower 80s on Friday and Saturday (which would mean near or above record highs). This is much warmer than the NWS, however, as they are only calling for mid 70s.

For the sake of it being winter though, I actually hope that warm forecast doesn't play out. Mid 70s sound good to me (low 80s are just a bit too warm for December), and I will hope the NWS is more acurate with this one than FOX26.

 oops. lol.

Looks like I must have been thinking back to my Central Florida days. The Fox station there is FOX35. It is strange though that I accidentally typed that instead of FOX26.

Sorry for the confusion.

<looks around for that Bear Watch I had somewhere>

Did someone say "Rain" for SE TX? I'm still watering the yard in mid December, well after the hose should have been retired for the season. Even though the Houston area hasn't fared all that badly drought-wise this year, drive a ways out of town and it's obviously been very bad for the rest of the state. Don't think I've ever seen some many bone-dry cattle tanks, creeks and ponds. Bring on a good soaker!

Interesting fog situation setting up:

Fog advisory:

906 PM CST WED DEC 13 2006

...DENSE FOG ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON HAS ISSUED A
DENSE FOG ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST THURSDAY.

DENSE SEA FOG OVER THE COASTAL WATERS SOUTHEAST OF HIGH ISLAND
THIS EVENING WILL SPREAD WEST THIS EVENING BRINGING AN ABRUPT DROP
IN VISIBILITIES. AS THE SEA FOG PASSES AN AREA EXPECT VISIBILITIES
TO REMAIN LOW UNTIL AFTER SUNRISE. VISIBILITIES WILL DROP BELOW
ONE QUARTER MILE AND AT TIMES MAY BE NEAR ZERO. BY SUNRISE THE FOG
SHOULD SPREAD TO AT LEAST THE AREAS EAST OF A FREEPORT TO RICHMOND
TO NEAR KATY TO ALDINE TO LIBERTY. IF THE WINDS FROM THE GULF ARE
A LITTLE STRONGER AFTER MIDNIGHT THE SEA FOG MAY MOVE NORTHWEST OF
THIS AREA AND EXPANSION OF THE ADVISORY MAY BE NEEDED.

MARINERS ON GALVESTON BAY SHOULD EXPECT VISIBILITIES TO EASILY DROP
BELOW ONE QUARTER MILE OVER THE LOWER PORTIONS OF GALVESTON BAY BY
1 AM.

A DENSE FOG ADVISORY MEANS VISIBILITIES WILL FREQUENTLY BE REDUCED
TO LESS THAN ONE QUARTER MILE. IF DRIVING...SLOW DOWN...USE LOW
BEAM HEADLIGHTS...AND LEAVE PLENTY OF DISTANCE BETWEEN YOU AND THE
CAR IN FRONT

Evening AFD:
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
854 PM CST WED DEC 13 2006

.DISCUSSION...

SPLIT CHANNEL IMAGERY AND OBS INDICATING AN AREA OF SEA FOG HEADED
THIS WAY FROM SOUTH OF LA AND THE COASTAL LA AREAS. TRANSPORTING
WINDS ARE FROM THE EAST AND HAS BEEN MOVING IT EAST AT 8-10 KNOTS.
IT SHOULD MOVE INTO EXTREME EASTERN CHAMBERS/GALVESTON COUNTY AND
THE EASTERNMOST COASTAL WATERS AND GALVESTON BAY BY MIDNIGHT. IT
SHOULD MOVE INTO THE HOUSTON METRO AREA AND MAY MAKE IT TO FORT
BEND-BRAZORIA BY 4 AM. A SECOND DECK OF CLOUDS ABOVE 4000 FEET
WILL MOVE UP THE LOWER TEXAS COAST AND SHOULD GET INTO THE WESTERN
MOST AREAS...AND A THIRD MESS OF CLOUDS-CIRRUS WILL OVERSPREAD THE
REGION FROM THE SOUTHWEST.

WILL BE ISSUING A DENSE FOG ADVISORY VERY SHORTLY AND AN UPDATED
SET OF ZONES AND MARINE TO ACCOUNT FOR THESE CHANGES. TEMPERATURES
ALONG THE COAST (PERHAPS EVEN HARRIS-LIBERTY COUNTIES) WILL BE
RISING AFTER 3 AM. AS THE WINDS RESPOND TO THE FALLING PRESSURES
OVER N TX-CO REGION AND THE JET BORES INTO THE NORTHWEST THE
LOW LEVEL TRANSPORT WINDS OVER SETX WILL BECOME MORE
SOUTHEASTERLY...THIS COULD BECOME VERY PROBLEMATIC CONCERNING HOW
FAR NORTH THE FOG SPREADS. FOR THE TIME BEING WILL GO AS FAR NORTH
AS HARRIS/LIBERTY...BUT THE NORTHERN AND WESTERN BOUND OF THE
ADVISORY MAY NEED EXPANDING LATER THIS EVENING. IF THE IMAGERY
FROM THIS AFTERNOON SOUTH OF LA IS ANY INDICATION OF THE DEPTH AND
SATURATED NATURE OF THIS SOON TO ARRIVE AIRMASS THEN THE FOG COULD
LINGER BEYOND 9 AM AS WELL...IT IS STILL VERY IFFY.

Fog advisories (like most) are issued at the county level. The advisory included Harris County - which is a big place. Driving in, the fog started near Beltway 8 and steadily got worse. It was pretty dense here by the Galleria area but it's starting to burn off now. One of our coworkers from Pearland called in "late" due to traffic with all the fog.

I actually did hit an area of fog about a mile down the road. Strange how isolated (but then again how thick) it was. It did last for awhile too. I remember still noticing some fog around 10-11am.

I was up about 6:30 this morning and we only had thick clouds under the BC Dome this morning. By the time I left the house around 9:00, I had the low beams on and could see about 100 yards ahead of me. I guess where people got the fog, it was pretty bad. About every 20 minutes one of the local news stations would cut to a picture of the downtown skyline. With each view, the buildings got shorter and shorter until the nearly disappeared. 8-)

Fog is already rolling in outside (MUCH earlier than last night). Should be very dense tomorrow morning.

BTW: This fog is strange. It is literally blowin' in. The winds have picked up a lot (10-15mph..with a few higher gusts) with it's arrival and the low clouds are whipping overhead (50-100 feet up). Also, at ground level, the fog is getting thicker and thicker by the minute. This is strange. I feel like I am in the movie "The Fog". lol.

Good ol Sea fog. Thanks to the cooler waters of the Gulf vs. the warmer land. Usually it's the other way around.
