Well the line is looking better on Klystron 9 http://www.baynews9.com
click weather
Today's weather has been like a "dry" tropical storm---> At least
the wind reminds you of the juicy atmospheric potential... Really strong
low level jet...could crank it up later tonight...Still windy right now...
about 20-25 mph as opposed to the 45-50 mph of earlier (first time since
TS Alberto of 2006 that I have seen prolonged durations of tropical
storm force gusts at Clearwater beach and St.Pete/Clearwater Airport...
If an impulse can really infuriate the gulf showers...that would be something...

Main energy moving off to northeast...rain still expected overnight in Tampa...but the activity seen further north (along with rain totals) is not forecast.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY RUSKIN FL
806 PM EDT SAT MAR 28 2009

.UPDATE...THE PRE-FRONTAL SQUALL LINE IS NOW MOVING INTO DIXIE
COUNTY AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF LEVY COUNTY. BOTH WATER VAPOR AND
IR SATELLITE IMAGERY INDICATE THAT THE MAIN UPPER-LEVEL ENERGY
ASSOCIATED WITH THE LINE IS EJECTING NORTHEASTWARD INTO NORTH
FLORIDA AND SOUTHERN GEORGIA
. IN RESPONSE CONVECTION OVER THE GULF
IS CURRENTLY IS WINDING DOWN A BIT. THE MAIN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE
PUSHING THE LINE AND ITS ASSOCIATED FRONT EASTWARD IS MIGRATING
QUICKLY EASTWARD OVER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI. MID AND UPPER-LEVEL
MOISTURE CONTINUE TO STREAM TOWARD WESTERN FLORIDA OVERNIGHT AND A
REGENERATION OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IS LIKELY. THE FORECAST
CONTINUES TO CALL FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVERNIGHT AND INTO
EARLY SUNDAY. SEE NO REASON TO ADJUST THIS LINE OF THINKING.

WITH THE MAIN ENERGY MOVING WELL NORTH OF THE AREA EXPECT THE MAIN
THREAT ASSOCIATED WITH THE SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT WILL BE
GUSTY WINDS BETWEEN 30 TO 40 MPH...WITH MOST STORMS PRODUCING
LESS
. DO NOT PLAN ON UPDATING THE FORECAST EXCEPT TO REMOVE
HEADLINES.

This gives me hope- some big thunderstorm cells
forming about 100 miles west of Tampa Bay...some of these
look strong...

Get ticked off now and get it over with. We'll be lucky to get a half inch. I've been suspicious of rain potential with this system all day. these set ups often underperform. I expect a quick overnight downpour with a few rumbles of thunder followed by some light showers....and a return to red flag warnings by monday as dry air advects in.

Your rainfall estimate is in line with NWS expectations...no flooding in the forecast, just some very welcome rain in the next 12 hours or so...then dry weather again

West wind between 15 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. I'm over it- I never expected anything like what is in North Florida-
the major energy is ejecting out of North Florida- at most we
will get a thin band...though the water temperatures are in the
70s and may, if we are lucky, support heavier rain- I don't anticipate
more than half an inch though
The winds today really did surprise me- I expected 30-40 at most
but with the prolonged period at 40-50 mph in coastal gusts- that was interesting

Severe storms rapidly firing 80 miles west of Tampa Bay:
http://radar.weather.gov/ridge/radar.ph ... BW&loop=no
One cell due west of the Bay looks like a super-cell...base velocity
showing an area of 70 mph winds with the cell...could be a
wild night.

A thick batch of showers and thunderstorms is just west of the South Florida CWA.

If this band fizzles it would be a huge disappointment. I think with the heating of the day and the strong SW winds its going to hold together and we may even see very strong storms with thunder and lightning:
