Re: Florida Weather Thread: July-Type Weather returns
excellent work, jinftl! what an amazing run of 90s for Miami and all of Florida.
It makes no sense reporting on the locations in the 90s again, since its so many and so widespread.
But 2 additional points of note from yesterday's bout (Oct 9)..
Sarasota fell to only 76F tying a 1962 record high minimum.
Record high mins were set at Tampa FL at 80F ** a new October record**
Miami also at 82F was a new record high min for the date ..and also the warmest night so late in the season (previous Oct 4 1995 at 83F)
Key West fell no lower than 84F... again, a new record high min for the date, and tying the October record which was just previously set on Oct 5, 6, and 7th 2009!!
Additionally, it was the warmest night so late in the season, previously set just 2 nights before .

7th 90 degeree day this month! October 2009 has now tied October 2002 as having the 2nd highest # of 90+ deg days for October. Not too shabby only 10 days into the month!
As of noon, Miami Int'l is sitting at 90 deg with a dewpt of 76, giving a heat index of 102 deg! MIA only dropped to 82 deg for the second morning in a row....incredible!
Last check of ocean temp at Miami Beach - 86 deg!

Not talking an arctic invasion, but we may see temps drop from the low 90's during the day and low 80's at night to more seasonal mid 80's during the day and 70's at night by next weekend.....but not before 5 or 6 more 90+ deg days in south florida....truly unprecedented for october.
From NWS Miami Discussion:
CLIMATE...THIS IS THE MAIN STORY NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. THERE IS A
POSSIBILITY AT THIS MOMENT THAT A COUPLE IF NOT A FEW MAX MIN
OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURE RECORDS BE TIED OR BROKEN OVER THE NEXT
COUPLE OF NIGHTS. THE OBSERVED TRENDS LAST FEW DAYS AND FORECAST

i have only lived in Florida for 10 years but i cannot recall such a long lived stretch of hot, humid tropical weather in October. We've had a few nights this past week where the low failed to drop below 80! Even now it is currently 82 @ TPA with a dewpoint of 77 resulting in a heat index of 90. that's at 10 pm well into october. I love hot weather so i'm not complaining but this is quite aberrant. i took a swim in the gulf today and was equally impressed by the 86 degree sea temp...again, very unusual for this time of year. typically water temps drop under 80 around mid october and don't get back there again until mid may around here. so, we've gotten a bonus round of summer. And all i need to see is pics of snow in denver or the upper midwest to know:
A.) the cold does exist and eventually we will cool down and
B.) if you like warmth and the beach we've got it made:)

Re: Florida Weather Thread: July-Type Weather returns
If floridians are not enjoying the perpetual summer heat, rest assured, temps will return to 'chamber of commerce' levels before long....we are approaching the 'average' date of the first low temp below 60 deg in the central peninsula in the next week or so (except along the immediate coast). Still 3-4 weeks away from the average first reading below 60 deg in south florida.....which is downright chilly by local standards.
Average Date of First Low Temp Below 60 deg:
Brooksville - October 9
Tampa Int'l - October 17
St. Pete - October 27
Lakeland - October 17
Daytona Beach - October 16
Orlando - October 19
Sarasota-Bradenton - October 13
Punta Gorda - October 19
Fort Myers - October 27
Naples - November 3
West Palm Beach - November 3
Fort Lauderdale - November 4
Miami - November 8
Miami Beach - November 18

Re: Florida Weather Thread: July-Type Weather returns
Today (Sunday) has just marked day #8 this month of 90+ deg in Miami.....as of 1pm, the temp at MIA is 91 deg. This ties the record high for the date set in 1992.
The forecast for the upcoming week....monday through friday...is for continuation of the 90+ deg stretch. All we need is one more day of 90+ to tie the prior record for most 90 deg days in October set in 1986 (9 days).
By next weekend, we may see more seasonal temps....highs in the mid-80's and lows in the low-to-mid 70s.

Amusing Discussion from NWS Miami...i love when the discussions have 'personality'. Here is a teaser from it.....the forecast high next Saturday is only 86 deg (with dewpts lower than they have been). Saturday night might get down to 72 deg! Cover the plants!!!
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
251 PM EDT SUN OCT 11 2009
IT WILL CONTINUE HOT AND HUMID WITH HIGHS IN THE L-M 90S
EXCEPT UPPER 80S AT THE ATLANTIC BEACHES. LOWS WILL BE IN THE 70S
EXCEPT LOWER 80S ALONG PORTIONS OF THE ATLANTIC COAST. DO NOT HAVE
HIGHS REACHING RECORDS THE NEXT FEW DAYS...FALLING A DEGREE OR TWO
SHORT. HOWEVER...RECORD HIGH MINS ARE FORECAST OVER THE NEXT FEW
NIGHTS. IN FACT...AM FORECASTING MINS TONIGHT TO TIE OR BREAK HIGH
MIN RECORDS AT ALL 4 OF OUR MAJOR REPORTING SITES TONIGHT (A FIRST
FOR ME...USUALLY IT`S JUST A STATION OR TWO.)
HERE ARE THE FORECASTED LOWS FOR TONIGHT ALONG WITH THE RECORDS:
NAPLES: 77 (RECORD 76 - 2007)
MIAMI: 81 (RECORD 80 - 1995)
FT. LAUDERDALE: 82 (RECORD 79 - 2007)
WEST PALM BEACH: 79 (RECORD 79 - 1972)
THIS HOT/HUMID PATTERN WILL PERSIST THROUGH FRIDAY...BUT THERE ARE
PROMISING SIGNS (IF YOU`RE LIKE ME AND WANT AN END TO THIS HIGH
HUMIDITY AND HEAT!) THAT A COLD FRONT COULD PLOW THROUGH HERE THIS
UPCOMING WEEKEND...MOST LIKELY ON SATURDAY...CLEARING OUT THE HIGH
HUMIDITY AND POSSIBLY BRINGING AN END TO THE "RAINY SEASON".
GFS/ECMWF CONTINUE TO POINT TO THIS SCENARIO. GFS MOS SHOWS HIGHS A
WEEK FROM TODAY ONLY IN THE LOWER 80S...AND MORE
IMPORTANTLY...DEWPOINTS IN THE COMFORTABLE 50S AND 60S. THIS WOULD
BE RIGHT ON SCHEDULE AS THE MEDIAN END DATE OF THE RAINY SEASON IS
OCTOBER 17TH (THOUGH IT HAS GONE AS LATE AS NOVEMBER 5TH). THERE IS
A CHANCE OF SHRA/TSRA ALONG/AHEAD OF THE FRONT FRI-SAT. THE
INHERITED FORECAST HAD ALL OF THIS COVERED WELL...SO THERE WAS NO
REASON TO MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THE EXTENDED FCST.

yup that should do it, that's day number 10 for October, breaking the old record of 9 days in Oct 1986.

Yep. 90 degrees by me in Kendall... another day, up to 11 now.
THANK GOD we swapped out our 20 yr old AC last month for a 16 SEER.
