I do not doubt this at all. I have always left sunflower seeds out for the birds and whoever else. They are dissapearing every night. Last night had 2 squirrels on the porch drinking out of the dog bowl. I am an animal lover and they do need help as well. Hopefully the prediction of the weather patter change in a couple of weeks will come true. WE all need help!

I haven't seen a squirrel here in months. A neighbor with a garden says a possum is raiding it every night tho.

Some neighbors are leaving water out for the feral cat that lives in the storm sewer and others are leaving out food for the birds.

The only wild animals we've seen this summer are the feral hogs (which are gone) and birds and field mice. We have never seen mice in the yard before - and we only saw the ones we did because our terrier caught them ...

What we do is when our dog plays in her doggie pool we wait a few hours to empty it. We've just seen birds tho.

Has anyone heard about this? Eric Berger, a Sci-Guy journalist from the Houston Chronicle is stating that some models are showing next week to be hotter. I thought the High Pressure ridge was supposed to move westward next Wednesday-Thursday.

Whilst in Saskatoon I stopped at a farmer's market and one fellow, that lives in the Andes, was selling wool ponchos that are made down there (I picked one up knowing we will have colder weather much sooner than I'd like).

Wow, I live in East Texas and this heat is unbelievable.

20 days over 105F (including today - 108). I calculated NWS's 7 day forecast highs and it averaged at 105.5F.

For some reason Longview's record amount of 100 degree days is high compared to neighboring cities (64 vs 47 for Shreveport and Tyler) so we haven't broken the record yet. Right now we are at 55, but I'd imagine it to be in the 60s soon.

Just checked the weather systems map and the Jet Stream is still hugging Canada's border like it was glued there (great for Air Canada flights departing from Vancouver and heading to Toronto) sooooooo you folks are really going to have to blow hard down there to shift that ridge. Personally I'd be happier if it did a little higher jog up but.....

Hit a record high of 100 today, almost didn't want to post that because I know how bad Houston and the rest of Texas is suffering but this is bad for us too. Shreveport hit 109! I'm so terribly sick of summer, it's just been downright miserable. Honestly if mother nature doesn't send multiple tropical systems into Texas to relieve y'all and throw some rain on us she's one cruel b****!!! I really don't how else we will get out of this drought (October historically driest month of the year).

No reason you shouldn't post about your weather too. We all so need some relief!! It is way past ridonculoous!! We do need a couple of tropical systems to come through or near this area if we are going to have a chance of breaking this drought. That is something I thought I would never wish for, having experienced more than my fair share to TC in my 57 years on the Gulf Coast, with of course the last being IKE.
Official high in Houston today was 103f(not a record) and we expect at least that tomorrow. At my house we hit 105.3f and at the weatherbug site nearest to me it hit 104f. It really did feel like walking out into a blast furnace when I left the confines of my AC. At this point I fear that the historic 1980 summer(which I remember all to well) is going to pale in comparison when this is over with.

Our neighbors began digging a pool this morning. Unfortunately, I had to leave for work, but the hole was at leat 6 feet deep and the Bobcat was still having trouble digging. The soil was still like concrete even that deep! So yes, it is VERY dry as we all know and in my opinion it will take something just as historic to break the drought. We can get all these heavy t-storms all we want but we need days and days of steady rain without the run off. I have been fairly positive throughout this entire ordeal but after seeing how dry the ground is first had, I am for once very very worried.

Putting in a pool now? I presume the watering restrictions are not the same in the Woodlands since they are probably on deep wells. To do it in Houston right now would be pointless imo since I don't think you could even fill it up.
The ground being totally dry that deep is flat out scary and tells me just how HISTORIC and BAD this drought is and I'm not talking just SE TX either. Unfortunately we are, at least imo, to a point that we will need HISTORIC RAINS to even start to recover from the drought. I don't even want to think how that is going to happen, here in SE TX and anywhere else in TX for that matter.
