Wow those are some cool temps. Enough to cut off the a/c and open windows. Without looking I would think those lows could be near record low territory. Either way it is going to feel great for the first weekend of NFL.

Not to be "Debbie Downer" with this. Don't get me wrong, the cool weather is WONDERFUL. :) But, in our part of the state, I would like to see decent rainfall first. I can't truly enjoy cooler weather unless I know we have adequate, regular moisture around. This local weather blog confirms what I already mentioned on a previous post.
C'mon El Nino!

Just back in from the hot sun; I had to keep reminding myself that there was a cold front coming this weekend. It was the only thing keeping me from running out in front of a car and ending the misery.

I agree with you on that weatherdude. Hopefully September is the first of many months in a row of above average precipitation across Texas!

Even with El Nino it's going to be tough to fill those western central Texas lakes. Colder months are drier than the spring and summer in terms of raw rainfall. It's just cloudier and more persistent light rains (with el nino's help). Lets hope we can get some assistance from the Epac in October or a very wet spring closer to the tributaries.

Btw the two analogs I liked for winter in the other thread suggests a chilly fall season

This is probably a little too cold but good idea

:uarrow: Back in December 1991, a couple friends and I drove from West Texas to San Antonio. It rained non-stop all the way to San Antonio. I remember seeing waterfalls CASCADING down the road cuts along I-10 in the Junction/Kerrville areas. It was the most AWESOME sight on an otherwise quiet, uneventful road cut! :D Just about every watershed in the state was brimming and could not take any more water. I think that was an El Niño period (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway, I have dreams of witnessing that kind of sight again.

I was just a youngster back then. I lived in San Antonio at the time. I remember I was with my brothers driving down the neighborhood in my parents' Oldsmobile stationwagon at night. I remember vividly the trees whipping around and torrential rain falling. I asked my brother what was going on. He said it was from Hurricane Allen.

Good'ole FW doing it oldschool!

Though not the record shattering cool nights shown previously, still very nice in the mornings and mild afternoons. Sunday will be beautiful to get those grills going and watching some NFL.

We need rain. It's been dry for too long across the central and southern parts of the state. The long range models don't show much rain for the next 2 weeks. I hope El Nino starts to bring us some rain in October.

I echo that South Texas Storms! :( I'm burned out and tired of doing this, feeling guilty for every drop I use :sprinkler:

I understand your sentiment. I like a good soaking rain before the cooler weather comes. A good portion of America is in a drought.

December 1991 was very wet for Texas. It was an El Nino winter that time. All that widespread rain led to massive flooding.

Amazing! Thanks for that link! Here is another one that talks about how the LCRA managed it. The runoff was enough to completely fill Lake Travis -- twice over!

There is some hope for those who want rain. The persistent trough over the Aleutians will keep sending cold fronts our way once a week or so. This induces a PNA+ and though this weekend's front won't offer much regarding rain, the next few looks promising. But that is at least until the second half of next week.

Fall equinox is about 2 weeks away. Colder air is quietly making it's presence in the far northern latitudes. Cheers :cheesy:
