Re: Florida Weather Thread: first cool/dry shot coming at last
Might drop to the low to mid 70s at night here on the immediate southeast coast of the state tonight and tomorrow night....interior southeast florida might see a few high 60's for lows though. By mid week, we will be back in the mid to upper 70s for low temps.
Getting to be that time of year where living south and east of lake okechobee can mean a completely different forecast than for our friends in Central and North Florida.

gatorcane wrote:Is the rainy season over in south Florida I wonder? With dewpoints so low, perhaps it is over
Looks like yes from the Miami NWS with the forcasted lower temps and dewpoints for the next couple days. We are already in the 50's for dewpoints right across the peninsula from Miami.

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mfl/?n=summer_season
Three meteorological parameters found in the LCD-- average daily dew point temperature, daily minimum temperature, and 24-hour rainfall amounts-- were subjectively examined to determine the beginning and ending dates of the summer season in southeast Florida. The median date of the beginning was found to be May 21st, and October 17th for the ending of the summer season. The average summer season had a duration of 152 days producing 69% of the annual precipitation at Miami International Airport.
For the more recent 33 years (1965-1997) when all three parameters were available, they were used in the following manner to determine the beginning of the summer season. The average daily dew point temperature was first examined to determine when it rose above and remained above 70oF. Of course, from this time on, the daily minimum temperatures remained above the 70oF level. The date when this took place was designated as the beginning of the summer season. In nearly all years, the summer rains began on or soon after that date.
For that same period of time, the end of the summer season and the beginning of the winter season was determined in like manner. The average dew point temperature was first examined to detrmine the date when it fisrt fell below 70oF. Many times this was very noticeable with a drop in dew point temperature to at least the lower 60s. This coincided with the daily minimum temperature dropping below 70oF for the first time since the beginning of the summer season. A sharp decrease in the frequency of daily rainfall was also observed with the temperature and humidity change. However, on occasion, the apparent end of the daily rainfall became masked by a period of rainfall occurring in northeasterly low level winds to the north of a stalled front south of the Florida peninsula. The end of the summer season in these cases was related to the dew point temperature and minimum temperature changes.

This morning the low temperature registered 47.4 degrees at my home here in north Jax. Probably a new record low temp set at NWS Jax office, which is only 7 miles from qwwhere I live. Loving this beautiful autumn weather!

Just confirmed that NWS Jax office also had a morning low of 47 degrees as well, which tied the record low for this date. It also was the earliest sub 50 degree reading registered since October 2001.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: first cool/dry shot coming at last
..and today, Friday Oct 8, temperatures re-bounded to the 90F degree mark in Tallahassee, among one of the state's hottest places today.
It also reached 90F at Crestview, normally the state's icebox.
The hottest reading today I saw in Florida was actually just NW of Tallahassee, at Marianna with a top temp of 91F

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot and dry!
look at all that dry air, mmmmhmmmm! perfect for basking in the warmth!
Sun Oct 10 2010
90s not as widespread in Florida, the only 2 locations that I saw :- at Crestview again , with 90F (just shy of the record of 92F set in 1981) and then also at Marianna (NW of Tallahassee) with 93F.
Several locations just across the state border did touch 90F, at Dothan and Albany GA both reaching that mark.
