Ntxw wrote:No official (thus far) 100F for DFW. It's been a struggle, a few more chances mid to late next week but probably another close one. The last July with no 100F reading was 1992, that summer ended with 1 grand total.

Looks like the top 10 list for latest 1st 100*F days may be in play now (starting with 8/7). 1973 and 1906 are the only years in recorded history thus far that DFW didn't see a single 100*F day.

BTW, the high of 98*F yesterday is also amongst the latest in the season DFW has recorded a temp that high, with the exception of 2002.

Stopped at 99 today at DFW. Any time you have a sweat (pun completely intended) on making it into August without a 100 degree day, that’s a “successful” summer IMO.

If it does stretch into August, there’s only been one year that hit double digit 100s when the first one was in August, that was 1921. The rest have all been 5 or less.

Well were forecast to on Wednesday well see if it holds up

Still looks like a front beyond that. Possibly 80s for highs next weekend. Definitely can't complain here

After the 2nd week of August the odds begin to decrease quite rapidly and most Septembers we dont. Only about a third at most. Tick tock...

The lows have been nice as well this summer. I like summers when the lows are not high lows and the highs are not high highs. :D

Rain about, none at my house but we got rain. Only the far N and NW parts of the Houston metro like College Station and Huntsville have broken 90 so far.

There were only a few sprinkles at my house, but the clouds kept temps in check. 90F for the high before clouds and nearby rain kept us below that this afternoon.

The dreaded heat ridge attacks next week possibly stretching into the following week. Both the GFS and Euro are now advertising 100 degree plus temps across a good portion of the state.

Temps look brutal across North Texas but by in large this may be our hottest stretch of the summer likely headed our way. It was bound to happen.

This humidity has to go... A dewpoint of 77 this morning :spam:

Maybe that's why we aren't hitting 100 the humidity won't go away even though it hasn't rained in awhile

Still seeing highs in the 80s next weekend

Yeah, I see a few days this week with mid to upper 90’s for my area which is completely normal for this time of year. I have zero complaints about this summer so far down here.

The extended models have advertised this four or five times at this point and none of them have panned out. It’s like a 2 foot snowstorm or a Cat 5 in the Gulf.

Yeah but this time it's only a few days away and it hasn't rained across much of north TX in a while. Very good chance DFW hits 100F later this week.

This isn't an example of extended modeling though. It's going into this week and as South Texas Storms mentioned, the pattern overall has been less active precip wise so we're not getting as much benefit from that now especially across certain regions like north Texas in terms of soil moisture.

In addition, as I've stated before we're in our hottest time period climatologicaly speaking so definitely not unusual for 100 degree temps to make an appearance for most areas.

Remains to be seen how long the 100 degree plus heat will last though but it's definitely on the way this week for many.

Oh yeah we definitely can't complain much here but the dewpoints have thrown me for a loop a bit because honestly we still haven't been even close to any records even at night with the humidity

As far as hitting 100 this week yeah it wouldn't surprise me. But maybe this will be the peak right here

The forecast mini heatwave (100-102) only last 3 days, maybe 98-99 Friday if it doesn't get to overcast, but the weekend has mid to low 90s forecast. We'll see how the rest of the month plays out.

Fall thread is approaching and I'm already thinking a wetter Fall season than we have seen over the last couple of years. :ggreen:

73 dewpoint...this has really been what's keeping from the 100s. Very muggy, but yeah seasonably hot is the best we can muster so far and fully expect the same. Close to 100s, humid. The eastern ridge is modeled to break down for a short period so dip back into the lower 90s late week.

Two 500mb features have been the story so far in July. Gulf of Alaska->Pacific NW and Northeastern US ridges near the Atlantic coast. Both regions have above normal SSTA. They have provided a magnet for raised heights, which doesn't allow heat ridges to settle and grow in the central US.

A mini heat wave characterization is looking more accurate at least for this week for some with perhaps a break this weekend.

Great analysis above also as to why we havent seen sustained heat take over this summer in addition to the above average precip across several regions throughout late June and early July.

No complaints here either even if 98/99 ultimately feels like 100 plus anyway especially when you factor in humidity (heat index). It could always be hotter in Texas no question this time of year but for now ensembles unfortunately continue to look hot and dry for most so hopefully we can limit the insane heat and find some precip mixed in there soon to help with that.

We are looking pretty good here in Austin considering the time of year. While getting a bit warmer the next 3 or so days, what I'm loving the most is chances for rain are not far off either as we could see chances by Thursday and with talk of northwesterly flow next weekend, could maybe a possibility of a cluster or two of rain moving in from the northwest. All in all a pretty active end of July, beginning of August. :ggreen:

The CPC has above normal precipitation chances for most of Texas over the next 10 days. Rarely do you see that this time of the year in Texas.

And now the CPC has cut back some on rain and slightly increased the chances for above average heat lol still doesn’t look too bad though, honestly.
