Isolated to scattered afternoon summer like showers and storms today through at least Thursday for much of the Peninsula.
Satellite picture this morning shows scattered showers in from the Atlantic somewhat associated with x-91L, with the remaining vorticiy north of Hispaniola still moving westward.
Sounding this morning also shows a moistening atmosphere with very little if any capping.

we may see a good seabreeze collision (by april standards) in the vincintiy of I-75 later today with storms pressing west toward the beaches. our weather seems to be averaging a month to a month and half ahead of schedule since late winter. i'm not complaining though...summer is my favorite season in florida by far.

Ha, ha, I would if I could. Actually where I live I have yet to see any significant rainfall from this "rainy season" activity just yet. We are hurting badly for some rainfall. Best chance so far will be tomorrow when the steering flow shifts to a more South to SW direction which should steer the storms towards the east coast of Florida.

In regards to SFL we're going to have to wait to see if this pattern persists. It's still early, and the storms are being fired up by cold and unstable air aloft more than by high dewpoints. Dewpoints were in the low 60s in Naples today. If this continues for the next week or two, then we can say it started. But we won't know until at least next week or the week after that.

In regards to SFL we're going to have to wait to see if this pattern persists. It's still early, and the storms are being fired up by cold and unstable air aloft more than by high dewpoints. Dewpoints were in the low 60s in Naples today. If this continues for the next week or two, then we can say it started. But we won't know until at least next week or the week after that.

Is not that uncommon to see dewpoints fall during daytime heating.
But notice how as quickly as the seabreeze kicked in from the south west the dewpoint jumped to the low 70s in Naples this afternoon to as high as 74 at one point firing up some storms further inland as it clashed with the easterly winds, low 60s was just a temp period of lower humidity due to earlier dry air that had moved over the Naples area from inland areas that had cooled down to the 60s earlier in the morning.
The rescent shower activity here in the FL Peninsula has a lot to do with a combination of relatively high dewpoints, seabreeze boundaries and very little cap in the atmosphere. Like I mentioned a few days ago, we will see these conditions fluctuate from time to time until our true rainy season sets in. We know that even in the heart of the rainy season we do not see these shower activities every day, there are times of drier periods.

still think this is a false start for the rainy season,at least around here despite the convective jackpots of the last couple of days. it is still early enough for prolonged periods of dry weather and such a period is likely to commence by the weekend as a cold front scours us out.

*The low of 75 degrees at Melbourne International Airport broke the previous warm low of 73, set in 1971 and 1957.

*The low of 74 degrees at Vero Beach Airport tied with 1965 as the warmest low for the date.

What a bust for metro South FL today....40% to 50% chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms and I do not think there was much measurable rain for most of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade.

Jeez. I'm back in St. Pete for the week off of school. I've seen both types of heat Florida has to offer: Brutal and Muggy!

In Tallahassee we have hit 92-93 a few times, but the humidity has not moved in. Its just god awfully hot! I can't wait for the 100's!

In St. Pete, we have the beach air with no sea breeze this week allowing temps to get to 90. The humidity is here to stay. Sweat does not evaporate and if you take 10 steps you are hot.

Ugh, someday I will move north lol.

1/1/11 through 5/1/11 puts us at 1737 fires for 63802 acres. Median numbers for that time frame over the past 30 years are 2027 fires for 44375 acres. May is typically the period of peak fire activity in Florida, though, so we'll have to see how things go.
